Error connecting to server

Post by Dr Zoidberg »

Hi everybody,

I wasn't able to connect to a match server (dub.bzflag.org:5997) tonight and got the error

Code: Select all

did not get Token
 Invalid callsign or password"
i've searched the forum for answers, and checked that my ~/.bzf/2.0/config.cfg file contains the following lines :

set callsign "Dr Zoidberg"
set password ********
set port 5997
set server dub.bzflag.org
set list http://my.BZFlag.org:81/db/

On a forum post, someone suggested to deregister. Is this what I should do ?

Any suggestions on how to solve my problem are welcomed.

That particular server is most likely down. You do NOT need to deregister. Those lines you see are NOT for /identify but for BZFlag to remember your global name and password.

Are you having problems connecting to other servers?

the server was not down, because the match was played (Hellion vs ForestForce).

I have problems to connect to every server I tried so far where there is a funmatch or a match.

What's wrong with my configuration or login registration ?

Not sure, but sometimes there is problems with global login on some servers, I get the same error message often, After a couple of retries it works again, occasionally it takes a bit longer.

From what I read on the forum, global login is server-side and not left to the user. Am I right or does the user need to register his nickname in a special way ?

NB :
I don't know if it's related to my connection problem, but on bzfla0.gamesunited.de, I always have to use the /identify command to log in, although my nick and password are filled on the bzflag main screen.
