interesting tool

Post by sid6.7 »

i came upon this the other day very interesting
for making all sorts of things like bridges, tunnels, trees...

anyone know more about this? is this trepans work?
it seems similar but there is no executable, only
example map files...

or is it all those Python(PY) files? what do you do with them
exactly?

Nope, definitely not my stuff, first time I've ever seen it.
There are some source packages on the SF page.

This appears to be a parser written to generate specific
objects, as opposed to a parser that allows you to create
your own objects and then manipulate them.

The Purple Panzer also has some visual basic code for
bzflag map object generation.

Post by sid6.7 »

on another note i have found traces(unusable)
of at least 7 bzmap makers so far...

its been an interesting search.....

and anothor note i've found around 220+ maps so far
im zipping them now and putting them up on my site
for download..if you have any you want added look it
over and see what i am missing...then send me the maps
i dont have...this will include the new contest maps for 2004

there are a number of "doubles" maps which have
been altered from the original so all told maybe
150-170 are originals?

Dutchri (sp) you should add that to the 'mapmaking tools' section of your website, that link page was where I learned about the other mapmaking tool besides BZEdit! (the name is escaping me).

That tool looks really cool. If I knew how, I'd merge all the mapmaking tools into one..... muHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yes, you're missing two invaluable tools:

1 - Microsoft's (R) Notepad Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpclnt_qfe.021108-2107)
2 - Mircosoft's (R) Calculator Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpclnt_qfe.021108-2107)

Hey, I am serious. Never used anything but these to create all of my maps. Think they deserve a place in your list somewhere

Correction then, I should give credit to BZEdit too. Don't use it for editing, really just Notepad and Calculator, but I do use BZEdit for previewing the results.

I use the 'joe' editor (with syntax coloring for bzw's).
As for math calculations, they're built into bzmapper.
(currently using bzfs for previews)

Don't use BZEdit for half of BZEdit and hlaf notepad, it messes up everything. well actually do whateva you like i guess but I use PyBzEdit and it doesn't kill the maps (i don't think) and it can add comments itself.

Wow I must be an oddball, I use BZEDIT ALL THE WAY! :) Never made a map without it. Never used text, or any other edit programs.

WHEW! I was wondering if anyone else used all graphics for making GOOD maps so here I am. PyBzEdit is like BZEdit but it has better graphics, better zooming, and... its missing the duplicate key :( , and the delete button doesn't work so you gotta cut :( . and can someone tell me what Transform does and when to use it cause i tried and it did NOTHING.

hi, this is MY work ,-).
it is all those python program files. Python is a cool programming language -- you need the python interpreter to run the programs.

there are windows packages with python on www.python.org (or ActiveState?).

your not alone 100% of mine were with bzedit
it was pertty easy to use and alot like the
drafting programs i use...i do hand edit with notepad
but only to put in comments/weapons.shoot/drive thru
or to fix the base thing...

i fig'rd out whats happening with shoothru though
i think...

you can draw and save your map fine with shootthru
go start up your server and the maps fine...but if you go back
into bzedit again and look at the map thats when it erases
previous shoothrus....

the only way to prevent the deletion is not to reopen
the map with bzedit...

other thing is put all of the boxes/pyrs with drive/shoot thru
at the end of your map file...then its easy to just go in
afterwards and re-type shootthru...you dont have to search the whole map file looking for them then...

just a work around but i used this on my last 2-3 maps...

hi, there's a link to the sourceforge link at

http://www.home.unix-ag.org/tjabo/bzflag/

it is

https://sourceforge.net/projects/bmcclt/

click on "Files" and download the newest file, "bmcclt20031029.tgz".
WinZip can open .tgz Files.

The newest version is over a year old -- I hope it is ok. :-)
Probably you have to add some bzflag map file headers, bzflag did some version jumps since then.
