Server Files

Post by The Guardian »

Hi.

I want to have a server, but I don't want my computer on all the time. I have a webhost with unlimited bandwidth and space, so what do I do?

Thanks in advance,

Martin

i dont think you can host it through the internet. you need a host that can leave his/her comp on 24/7 or one that has a special box (for intance l4m3r). you might need to ask around for someone to host it for you if you dont want to keep your comp on.

and ive never heard of unlimited bandwitch!!

you can load a binary to the web host, if allowed.

you can: if they have hdd sapce, and it does not have 2 be a html, you can install bzflag.

Depends what kind of access the host gives you.
If the only thing you can do is upload and download files and create folders (FTP), than this is not enough.
What you need is some kind of shell access or the possibility to start processes, or have processes registerd to be started.
How to do this greatly depends on what kind of system your services is running on, Windows Server, Linux, other Unixes.

theres no other way to get the server up through your webhost but you could ask someone to host it for you or host it yourself. to host it yourself you might want to read this: http://my.bzflag.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2915

One more question... On almost all the servers, I'm not seeing IP addresses - I'm seeing webaddresses like viper2.pimpi.org.

So, what are they doing?

Thanks in advance,

even if I host someones map Inever never NEVER give out the admin pass! that gives the person complete superiority over anyone at the server, they will usually promote you to admin, or cop.

not all maps get hosted, I have made about 25 maps and only about 5 have only ever been hosted, and most of those are for a week.
