PM notification

Today a player was being a retard, so I insulted him. Unfortunately, the person who I had just been talking to mistakenly thought the insult was directed at them, rather than the stupid player, and immediately signed off.

I wanted to explain the misunderstanding and apologize, but had no means to contact the person, since you don't know if a given player actually goes on BZBB and checks PMs or anything.

So, I thought, maybe it would be nice for public servers to notify registered players if they have new PMs when they join. I would think it would only take slight modification to both the login system and the server... thoughts?

I could see that. But how would it work if a player is not registered and changes there callsign? Would it tell if you have a new message on that specific server or if you pop online anywhere?

It would only work for registered players. Obviously, unregistered player don't have accounts on BZBB and thus won't have PMs.

ideally, any server would notify a registered player of an unread PM.

EDIT: I'm talking about BZBB PMs, not the in-game private chat messages.

it would be simple to add it as a paramater to the token query with the listing of the servers.

Indeed it is, both 2.0.5 and 2.1.2. The modifications to the list server to run it are also live now.
