New commands...
I was just thinking...
How about some new /commands...
Ok, first... the /move command...
/move [playername|"Playername"|#slot|etc. etc.] [basenumber 1-4|base name]
This moves player to team.
I sometimes want all the bots on one team together...
(in Rabbit hunt if player is the rabbit it automaticly chooses a new one... or you could make somebody else the rabbit... etc. etc.)
Ok, this is mainly for testing levels...
/give flagID [playername|"Playername"|#slot|etc. etc.]
This gives a certain flag to player
Ok, for those spammers...
/clear
(just like IRC)
This command clears whatever tab you're in in the info box...
(or all of it... you pick...)
I had a few others... but they weren't as good...
Comments PLEASE!!!
(I really, really, want the /move command)
AND YES!!! I know... this would give admins/cops more power...
(You might want to make a -cangive for the .conf file for the /give command...)

I love /move, like /give (DW's right, it could be misused), but don't really see the purpose of /clear. Now I don't know exactly what it does (I'm assuming it clears everyone's client chat log), but clearing the chat logs could get rid of useful logged info. too. Besides, there's /mute for dealing with spammers.

First...
The /move command is needed...
The /give command could be "blocked" by not putting the -cangive in the .conf
The /clear command only clears your clients box.
(not everybody elses)
This means once there is a spammer you just
(un)silence spammer
/clear
'z' please kick spammer (or)
/poll kick spammer
(so the spammers gone and you can let little kids look at the info box...)

But what about the text already in the info box???
/mute doesn't take that out!
And, all the text in your info box is saved in memory!!!
(meaning a little higher lag...)
I think on servers like hepcat the /give command would be bad!
But, sometimes in my map I have flags that you can't get because there aren't any platforms up to where they are.
(I need that flag for testing... etc. etc.)
The /move command is all around nice for bots... People that TK a certain team color because they wanted to join the other team...
(etc. etc.)
Or, Moving myself to a rogue if the teams are un-even (and I'm on the higher team... etc. etc.)

DW... Do you understand that anyone could run /clear, and it would ONLY clear that person's chatbox? Even aministrators could not clear your chatbox with /clear, because it only clears the chatbox of the person who runs it. If it's put in the terms I stated above then /clear would be perfectly acceptable, I think.ducatiwannabe wrote:The /clear would NOT be a good idea for the whole chatbox area. I suggest if you make it at all (Which I would not recommend, this can also be mis-used) it can only clear a bad word or something.

Um, no...
The game has to save where you are (like if you scroll)... Save it in RAM... AND, It has to render the infobox.
Now, I'm not sure if BZFlag devs coded it to where it just covers up the text then the proformance would be extremly bad...
If they made it where they isolated the text to be shown then render, then the proformance would lie in the isolation part.
the /clear command IS NOT a server command...
it's a client command.
It only clears your info box not others.
(it does the same thing on IRC clients... It clears whatever window your in... at least in Ircle...)

That's what I was thinking... rather than clearing everything, it can still be used for each player's individual client, but it just clears all the messages <callsign> has sent.
Does the walker choose the path or does the path choose the walker?

If it is not a server command, shouldn't it be given a prefix other than the slash, just for the sake of consistency?
I like the other two suggestions, and yes, there should be accompanying admin permissions to control what cops can use them.

Client commands use the slash "/" too..Workaphobia wrote:If it is not a server command, shouldn't it be given a prefix other than the slash, just for the sake of consistency?
