Re: Rank?!@#$%^&*()_+
There are only three ranks that normal users can get (you are currently on the second rank). The only way to get higher "ranks" is to make a sizable contribution to the project, by doing stuff such as helping with development.

Re: Rank?!@#$%^&*()_+
As this has been moved to forum suggestions; I'd suggest one more higher rank for the normal players to recognize old and wise players.
Like from 100 posts or above (or something).
It could be calles Senior Private (or something, just thinking loudly)...
the picture could be the same as for private first class but with two fully grayed stripes (or something )

Re: Rank?!@#$%^&*()_+
but people with many posts (probably) contributed more to the community;
Like maps, plug-ins, help, ... I think they should receive a little reward for it

Re: Rank?!@#$%^&*()_+
Anyone can make maps, and post saying "gj, lol, nice map", but then it wouldn't be a special rank now would it
You need to contribute to the project. You could contribute code, bug test new versions, etc.

if they have contributed they will have been noticed and have the possibility of being given a rank.

Re: Rank?!@#$%^&*()_+
I'm a little confused on this, normal players can only achieve three ranks.. Are the others only for admins?
Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who.
Re: Rank?!@#$%^&*()_+
Not necessarily admins. It is a way to make people who help the project in significant ways to be recognized for their efforts. Usually bestowed by the forum or project admins.

Okay, and the normal players get ranks by doing the same?

There are the automated ranks, and then there are manual ranks.

Re: Rank?!@#$%^&*()_+
I asked for the rank of "DareLicked of Dooty", but they would not give it to me.
Take a look at my Defender game mode concept.
Thinking is not an automatic process. A man can choose to think or to let his mind stagnate, or he can choose actively to turn against his intelligence, to evade his knowledge, to subvert his reason. If he refuses to think, he courts disaster: he cannot with impunity reject his means of perceiving reality.

I have just read this....
I helped alot on BZFlag, so your suggestion at 2010 Blast is wrong.
You only get ranked higher if YOU know about it.
It does not matter tough it is cool if you and your friends know it plus, its only a picture peoples know what you truly are. (picture and words(: )

Welcoming noobs to BZFlags is you duty. And helping the helpless is also the same.
I help them because I got help when I first started, so all you are doing is returning the favour.

You stole the words right out of my mouths mahem1. FangUp, contributing to BZFlag means writing multiple wiki documents, cleaning up the wiki, writing patches, helping on IRC, etc. In no way what so ever am I trying to offend you FangUp, but what have you done that is "significant" to BZFlag?

Allejo, i won't brag about things i did, but i helped even if not on your "proffessional" levels. I made peoples register or even play BZFlag, like mahem1, now you guys, are doing so called "important" things like plug-ins, updates, handling big things...but is that really that important? and to who? we bring players that is important but doing maximum power things for a few peoples left on BZFlag seems kinda unnecessary... (my opinion)

Re: Rank?!@#$%^&*()_+
Maybe you misunderstood what the rank stood for. The rank represents what you have done to help with the BZFlag project, not with the community of BZFlag itself. Getting more players to play this game is something we do want indeed, and it does not go unnoticed. However, the rank is to show the people who dedicate time and effort to making the game better in some respect. For example, the developers work hard every day fixing new bugs, adding new features, and preparing for the next release. Some players have done remarkable and helpful things for the project, such as providing patches or finding new problems with the code. In addition, websites such as http://bzstats.strayer.de help bring a bunch of information together. People are even coming up with new ways to make map editing even easier.FangUp wrote:now you guys, are doing so called "important" things like plug-ins, updates, handling big things...but is that really that important?
All of these are examples of contributions to the BZFlag project. While what you can do to help is stimulate the player base (And it does get noticed), what will really impact the future of BZFlag itself is what the developers and contributors put in terms of time and effort towards programming and management.
