Starting a local game?
Starting a local game?
Here's the deal. I want to just set up a game so I can test my maps. However, upon selecting 'Start server', and setting up the preferences, it then says 'Unknown error (22)' and refuses to launch a game. Is there something wrong with my maps, or BZflag? I'm using BZedit32.

Hmm, wierd, on windows I get another error-message, namely "error connecting to server", independent whether my test-map is correct or not.SuperGeek wrote:it then says 'Unknown error (22)'
Anyway, it also never worked on my windows-system, too. However I could start the exactly same test-map on linux via "Start server"! So it's buggy.

How do I test my maps without starting a game? Go to another server and plead with the admin to let me use my maps?

I assume you mean: How do I test without selecting "Start server"?SuperGeek wrote:How do I test my maps without starting a game?
Yep, for example you could try to ask a server-owner whether he could (temporary) host your map for testing-reasons.SuperGeek wrote:Go to another server and plead with the admin to let me use my maps?
Alternatively you could test it on you own, I guess the easiest way would be to use BzwTestLauncher (however I never used it): http://my.bzflag.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=11785
Or you could MANUALLY use BZFS in combination with an own-config:

Technically the utility can run on Linux and OSX and any other OS that supports the mono project.
Re: Starting a local game?
Mmkay, I downloaded it but it seems to need a file entitled 'BZFS.exe'. I don't seem to have it anywhere....
Right, so it seems to be a program for starting a server.... where would I find it?

Well there's blasts program he made and you can always start your own server or ask a small time server owner(me) to host the map on my ultra laggy server for a short time.

Re: Starting a local game?
BZFS.exe is included with the game. So I'd recommend that you check there.
Re: Starting a local game?
Um... I may have not installed it. Can I download it manually?
Re: Starting a local game?
No problem. I reinstalled it. Yay! My map doesn't crash!
Re: Starting a local game?
So..... how do I post a map?
Re: Starting a local game?
By "post" do you mean upload to the forum? If so, you can do it as an attachment in the map releases forum. Please make sure to read the licensing thread there first.

Re: Starting a local game?
Do you mean how to post a map on this forum, so that someone will host it? http://my.bzflag.org/bb/viewforum.php?f=64SuperGeek wrote:So..... how do I post a map?
