1 on 1 contest returns!
1 on 1 contest returns!
Great news guys. This year will be a new 1 vs 1 contest.
Style will be ducati, so 2 shots, richochet, no jumping.
The contest will be hosted by zongos site: http://1vs1.bzleague.com/
As zongo is short in time this year, kierra, catay strayer, zongo and myself will do the job together.
Duration will be about 4-6 weeks if possible, but at the moment we cant agree on a setup.
So please leave comment on the following questions:
1) Would you play in the contest and have a fair chance to finish it? We musnt have the problems easy kill had with their contest.
(Number of players might have influence on the setup)
2) How many matches would you play? (see poll please, influences setup)
3) Which setup would you prefer? (groups like spring 2006, qualification phase like last conest, mixture of both, something else ; in general groups is the best solution for the lazy guys who dont want to do that many matches, quali phase will mean more matches)
4) Would you also like to include the fancy style?

I would join for sure if the setting is like in 2006, so I am 100% for groups so that there is a real chance to finish the tourney. IMHO any other set up will not work because people quickly lose interest, specially if they have little chances to get points. Grouping players with top players spread over the groups is by far the finest solution: let people join, make a ranking on the bases of their bzelo and put the strongest players in different groups. After the in-group mini-league, first and second pass and play death match style with other group winners, etc you now the mechanics.
ok, ive been quite surprised of the poll. 2/3 like few matches, the other 1/3 seems to like an infinite number of matches. Noone prefers the middle.
The big majority likes groups, so it will be probably the spring 2006 setup with a few changings. Something like 25-35 matches will be necessary to win the competition. Registration will be open soon.
So i guess the contest is ready to start in May, maybe even 1st of May

zongos zelo of course.
EDIT: Setup has been balanced a bit
best player in zelo score goes group A, second one E, third one C, fourth G, fifth B and so one. Otherwise, if the zelo top players win their groups, fifth best zelo player would not match top 1-4 til the final.
Recognized that bug late, but better late than never

I'd be happy to set up a server if that would be required. The data center is located in Tampa, Florida, USA. Contact me here or on irc.freenode.net ##bzpro.
I'd also of course like to take part in the tourney!

Add me
We're having some difficulties getting the matches to auto-report to the site but I'm optimistic that we'll get it solved/fixed by May 1st!

Just a note, the Message of the Day that comes up as you join bzf, it says the 1vs1 tourney is a "1vs1 BZFlag CTF Tourney. Since most of us know 1vs1 isn't CTF, it's not a huge problem. It may cause some confusion, so I just thought I'd bring it to people's attentions. I'm not sure who to talk to to change it, but someone else might.
@anteater: group phase lasts 4 weeks, each round of the finals one week. So theres still enought time left for you to play. In special cases and if the opponent is ok matches might be scheduled a bit later even.
@slime: EDIT: The message is fixed. Thanks to slime for the note and thanks to whoever has fixed it.

The day when registration will be closed has been changed to 30. April.
Somehow April only has 30 days, so 31. April would have been quite impossible...
Its funny nobody has recognized this bug.
Some information:
Over 40 players have registered yet, so groups will have 5 and 6 players.
Players who havent played any 1on1 matches yet will be put at the bottom of the ZELO list for the groups.
Edit: We now have 10 official matchservers for the contest, 7 ducati style, 3 fancy style.
Due to the high number of american participants, we`re trying to get more american servers. Thanks to TheRedBaron for offering servers, hopefully it will work.
The list of the groups will be available on the 1vs1 homepage on 1. MAY or 2. MAY.
Contest starts Sunday, so prepare your tanks!!

Just a note to those who want to participate, but aren't registered at the 1vs1 League so far:
You can register yourself by joining the server 1vs1.catay.be:5155. On this server you can benefit from the features of catays new 1vs1-plugin-demonstrator by using the /ovso command. If you type /ovso register <your@email.address> you can register your callsign. You just enter an e-mail address. Then you get an e-mail with a registration confirmation link. Open the link and you'll be registered for the 1vs1 League.
Don't forget to send a message to [o: update :o]deviltank[o: /update :o] too, so that he can add you to the 1vs1 Tourney!
(Thanks catay...^^)

All the above servers are equipped with realtime match reporting.
A big thanks to Pimpi/Dexter/TRB for providing the necessary BZFlag

Registration is closed! The contest starts Sunday.
If you already registered, but cant find your callsign on the list above, please contact me as fast as possible.
The current ZELO score which be used to put players into the groups.
From now on, news and information about the contest
will only be updated at the 1vs1 homepage.
http://1vs1.bzleague.com/contest08.php
We have more players than expected who joined the contest, so the number of matches gets reduced in order to stay under the 25 matches maximum aim.
During the group phase, only play at most 2 matches against each opponent in your group!
(Finals are still 3 matches each round)
