help using the password data base, wont work

Post by big_daddy2 »

hello i tried this out by entering no password and trying /identify <password> (because a passdb makes this enabled) but when i did this i entered the right password but it didnt identify me, why is this?

oh another thing is what does a pidfile do for your server?

Wait, wait, wait. Slow down, and talk calmly. Please rephrase your situation and question.

You need to register a password to your call sign if you are using passdb. Identify won't do anything if you never registered yourself in the first place.

To register a call sign, simply type: "/register <YourPasswordHere>" without quotes.

I have no idea what pidfile does, although this is what the wiki says:
* -pidfile filename
Specify a file where the server will write its process ID so it may be used for remote administration.

any server that uses /register and /identify CAN see your password. so don't use your global forum password. This means the server owner CAN and often will collect your password and use it.

if a server is public, there is NO reason to use the local /register and /identify.
