Maps without radar
Maps without radar
What ways of playing have worked best for you on radar-less maps, such as Louman's Mystic Valley?
Do you always move forward, turn around often, or do you like to camp?
What flags do you find most useful?
GUI settings?
etc..

My strategy for that kind of maps is:
- turn around while spamming ID key and when i get someone i just follow that direction - continuously pressing ID - until I get him and I never stop, because if someone is behind you and you stop he will probably kill you.
I dont like to camp on those kind of maps cus it is boring.
I usualy join radar-less maps to get some fun.

narrow, tiny and high speed are more useful than they are on maps with radar. i find sw and gm less useful (but that may depend on the structure of the map). cl pwns hands-off. hunting players is a must.. if there are many, hunt the best ones. if the map isn't very crowded jumping and turning at the same time is a good idea as that will make you see a good portion of the map. again, a lot depends on the map's structure and how crowded it is.

What I do (in addition to the aforementioned ID key) is a move up to the highest layer, near the edge. I can see when people spawn on the layer beneath me, and then I can jump down behind them and kill them.
If I must move around, I try to stay in the little patches of bushes, when you're on the rogue team it's really hard to see you in there.
I have also found that it's quite good to stay in the middle of the map and continuously pick up GM. Even though it's harder to find a target without radar, it's even harder to dodge the GM when you can't see where it's coming from.

well if there is a limited amount of CL, yes it would be unfairPETER wrote:"unfair" no ,it is not , if every one has the chance to get it then no , I would not class it as unfair.
Yea, that's the main ways to spot a CL. CL'ers should play it smart though. Travelling in and out of bushes, disguising the track marks wherever possible. At the rate the track marks fade, driving very slowly is another tactic.anomaly wrote:With landing effect and track marks turned on you can spot cloakers. ID key works for CL so you can get an idea of where they are
Doing that will give your position away. My tactic is staying hidden as best as I can and suprising the enemy.anomaly wrote:Fire a few rounds and maybe they will have to jump.
The power of the flags tends to be increased with non radar maps. All of them are my favorite. Once your opponents start relying on hunting and the ID key, that's when ST becomes quite useful.
I like your idea about headphones h0ley, I hadn't thought of that.
My favorite thing to do on Mystic Valley is grab the SuperBullet flag, camp in one of the tight corners by the water. When I "spot" someone approaching from the right or left with the ID key, I spew out a cloud of bullets through the wall.
Plus, when I get bored of camping and since I'm next to the water, I can grab a fishing pole and catch something to grill.

oooo i love ones like this where there is no radar its so much more challenging. well on mystic valley, i love getting cloaked flag. its quite hard to get, and the downfall is u can only fire a few shots with it before it runs out. But wen i get it, i listen to the direction of shots and/or press right click so i can see the rough direction of where another player(s) is/are and then go in that direction. I tend to try not to jump or fall down the side of anything onto lower ground, as wen u do, that white puff bit appears so ppl can see where u land. i then find my victim, ride up behind him so i am quite literally only a turrets length away, and then shoot him in the back - i only fire on them if i am 110% sure i can hit them cos i dont want to waste shots. yes i know this is wot sum ppl mite call cowardly...sum mite call it others unskillful...i just call it "using my whits"

No radar maps are the best in my opinion. I just love to track people down just using right click and changing direction often. Listening for jump direction is crucial. On Hide 'n 'seek hills and Emerald mosque flying high with wings is the best way to spot respawners, then with a quick flick down with a bullet you can get'm while their hunting around for a flag
Maps with radar are ok if you want it easy but I find no radar maps more challenging.

Yea kinda yes kinda noDoesMyBumLookBigInThis? wrote:Maps with radar are ok if you want it easy but I find no radar maps more challenging.
My opinion is this:
Non radar maps are usually less populated than maps with radar. With less players non radar maps are fun and less challenging as there are less players around. Maps with radar have the most players, making it hard either way with or without a radar.
+ there's also issues with flags etc. Non radar maps don't have alot of dominant flags, maps with ie. MoFo, have.
I find it hard to compare them

I got decent scores on Mystic Valley when it was very busy by just getting on the middle level and circling the map in one direction continuously. If you come up behind someone, shoot 'em (V is your friend here). I was getting killed a lot, but I usually took out 2 or 3 before I did. I believe I was at +50 at one point (my highest ever).

In no-radar or extremely-small-radar maps, my strategy is to stay near a wall or corner, or if that's not practical, stay near a cluster of buildings (or in Mystic Valley's case, brush and vegetation). Also, if you pick up Cloaking, for the sake of God, DON'T DROP IT! With no radar AND Cloaking, you are totally invisible! Yes, I know PETER already said this, but I CAN'T EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH! Also, don't drive in a straight line; turn around frequently. Other than that, I just use my normal tactics.

yes i resurrected thus thread but it was just screaming to be postedPETER wrote:"unfair" no ,it is not , if every one has the chance to get it then no , I would not class it as unfair.
i find it quite easy to get theese people, because they will generally try to get behind you, get a good pair of headphones and use hunter mode "u" key by default... when the noise gets louder, just use a shock wave, 99.9% of the time youll get the cloaked dude. I personally love hunting the invisible that and oo..
my strategy is to always move forward and have everyone selected in the hunt menu, that way if you turn in the direction of somone... it will say spotted: Foo. Foo being a player, they can be behind a hill or anywhere, but as long as they are ahead of you in your general direction a noise will sounnd, the quieter the farther, the hunter mode also has active panning so its essentially telling exactly where someone is, finding people with hunter mode is easy.
also if you want to bring people to you... jump and fire a shockwave, or spam the fire key with a laser... somone will come... just be ready

Unless there is none ;-)
In reality, ST is still a bit useful on no-radar maps with high coverage (like Mystic Valley). When I play on them, I spam the identify button in order to locate targets. If you're stealthed, then they cannot locate you with identify.
