D-Day Invasion
D-Day Invasion
I was wondering if we could have a group effort of making a map of the shores of normandy. We could have one teams tanks spawn in the water and one teams tanks spawn on land. We would have to have the land slopped and we could have those steel "X" barriors on the shore. Then we could have a forest up on the land and we could have all sorts of stuff up there. It would be awsome to see tanks rise up out of the water coming towards you. Let me know if anyone would like to work on it. I'm not the best map maker in the world so don't think I can do everything. I know this kind of map has been posted in another thread somewhere. (I cant find it) But, I would like this to be a group effort. I think if everyone contributes we could make a beastly map.
Even though I know the devs say dont ask this question, I'm going to do it anyway. It would be awsome if they made some kind of turret or something (It could be machine gun turret, guided missle) that you could get into by pressing a simple button then using the same keys as you do now. For instance in this map you could put it on a battleship and then you could get in it and shoot to the shore. Just like the actual invasion. Or you could put a machine gun turret in the forest on the land then shoot at the tanks coming up out of the water. That would be awsome if you could make a turret devs! Please.

For the turrets, just have some sort of one-way shooting bunker with the flag in there.
Like the ones used in L4m3r's "The Compound".
Yea I thought of that, but the only problem is since it's going to be a sloped beach if you shoot from the shore its going to go over the heads of the tanks down below you. Thats why we need turrets so you can move you shot up and down, side to side. I meen you could do what your saying and put GM in there, but still I think the turret would be an evolution to the game.

How do you propose the allied tanks climb the beach..?
Merry Christmas!

To answer your question Cannon Ball Gye, I really don't know how we are going to get the tank to climb up the hill since you can't really climb on a object.
I don't really like the idea of a convayerbelt because it constantly drags you up. That isn't really what I wanted. I kinda want full control over where you can come out of the water and stuff.

Isnt that the same as a Convayerbelt?Red Cobra wrote: I don't really like the idea of a convayerbelt because it constantly drags you up. That isn't really what I wanted. I kinda want full control over where you can come out of the water and stuff.
Once you're on the conveyerbelt your on it untill you get to the top. I don't like that idea. Unless you set the converybelts like stripes, going up and down the beach. The areas where they aren't are platforms. At platforms there will be flags. When you get higher and higher the platforms will have better flags on them. Once you get to the top you have GM. The only problem is, the tanks that spawn on the beach, how do they get down to the base under water. This would be so much easier if the tanks tilted.
To answer your question, A Viciouse Muffin, the only problem with wings is if you have a whole bunch down at the bottom people are going to play the map like Hills. We could have a bunch of wings down at the bottom and have -set _gravity 20? That would make it so the wings flag would only be used to get to the top.

I've got the answer! I found out how we could do it. It won't be as cool, but it'll suffice.
Ok so you make a slope in Blender and have a beach and everything. You make water in blender and then you add the water texture to it. Since you made it in blender the water is actually an object. You can make it look like it's moving, but the tank itself doesn't move. You can't go through it. So you make the base on the opposite side of the beach on top of the water. Battleships, destroyers, and some PT boats will act like boxes on a regular server (things you can hide behind). So you can drive ontop of the water towards the beach. The beach is flat. Then you make a cliff. (You can't drive up it.) On top of the cliff is a forest. In the forrest is the other teams base. Beyond the forrest is a mountain range. There you will find wings flags. You can fly halfway up the mountain and you'll find a ledge where you will find GM and some flags. It will be like a battalion dug in.
Let me know if you like this. We need a lot of help. This map will take a long time.

About the hill: There are just two possible solutions in my opinion: Either you make it a giant map with stairs (giant because you need to counter the weak jumping tanks) or you make it flat. Both are not ideal but making it flat is probably the best solution.

I hit these problems when making my beach map. I wanted to find a way of simulating a sloping beach, but it's always going to be impractical and detrimental to gameplay, whichever way you do it.
Imho, it's a better idea not to have a slope, i.e. have the beach raised up above the level of the water, which is what I chose to do:

about the Making it flat thing. I think its the best also. but we could Raise the Base thing at the top
This map sounds really complex, but never the less, once its done its going to be 1 hell of a map!
About the escalator thing, i thought i read somewhere their werent going to be any moving objects in BZ as it would add to much complexity, i think the same reason was given for the idea of stationary turrets.
I could help but im not sure what i would do to contribute. I could advertise it

No, it was World War II (1939 to 1945) that started when Germany invaded Poland. Primarilly between Britain and Germany, fought between the allied forces, that developed into a worldwide war between allied forces and the 'axis' forces of Nazi Germany, Facist Italy and The Empire of Japan. It is the deadliest conflict in human history, resulting in over 62 million deaths.*ucktape wrote:yeah wasnt this a War betewn Japan and U.S.?
