Well, I find it fun when I'm st, sneak up behind someone and through them just a bit, then back up and shoot them. Always a good nerve check for them.

Should it do it? Probably not, but it's the way the game works right now.

The code, by design, makes radar on/off as well as many other functions "priority" events, if you will, that take precedence over graphics updates. What you're doing, essentially, because of auto-repeat in your keyboard bios or OS, is causing it to flip on and off many times. However, this...

The mountains are defined in the client, as .png files. I've got replacements for them for a map I made that look like ocean surface with distant islands. However, I'm the only person that can see them unless we have a way to distribute "horizons" as a server function.

LouMan, they are pretty cool. It kind of reminds me of one of the 007 maps in one of the PS2 games my kids play. Not really the same, but the overlooking pillboxes and such are really neat.

Use W and Q to close the text and radar windows, then hit both of them again to reopen. This somehow resets it. Then you can press on. The problem comes from using the F1-F4 key to switch to the filter mode you're already in. For instance, if you are already in "chat" filtering, don't hit ...

This was dealt with in another thread just recently. GM has a "minimum" range that is similar to the minimum arming range of a real gm. If you get within that range, the GM can't kill you.

Not seeing thief "shots" is a lag issue. That happens a bit at 150+ ms.

If you look back, you will find lots of threads and discussions on scoring CTF. There haven't been any changes to the CTF scoring system in a long time. If nothing else, there probably needs to be a serious consensus about how scoring would be best before we could convince the dev community to chang...

That is exactly the reason that most admins/cops just say "watch the language" rather than kick you the first time or two on servers with language policies. Most admins/cops would rather warn you and let you continue to play. This is pretty standard on secretplace and viper, and many other...

It's part of the fun. It's bad enough that the team flag gets colored on radar. I seriously hope that was in jest.... Yes, jest, but the radar does make it rather easy to find the team flag carriers. I was serious about the scoreboard thing, though. The scoreboard already does color for the team fl...

SilverFox,

Thanks! I think I represent a lot of other players when I say that.

It's been a while since I looked at that section of the code, but I got the impression that the POLL perm was for using /poll, and the other perms were just more granular permissions. ??

I was just on hepcat. There's a cheater flying around without wings, team killing, "warping" or changing locations from point to point in the sky, and so on. Of course, you can't poll to ban or kick him if you are a registered player. He kept stealing our flag, warping around till he was o...

Gee, I sort of like and depend on the confusion about the flag carriers to help get away with the flags. It's part of the fun. It's bad enough that the team flag gets colored on radar.

Okay, so modifying what I originally brought up for discussion a bit (and it was only a discussion point), do people think a concept of server karma would be good, just like the proposed player karma? Yeah, not a bad idea. You already get a sort of "karma" by looking at the server list. T...

Keep in mind that this is an international mix of servers. It's anarchy by definition. There is NO system which would or could apply to this fairly by everyone's standards. DTRemenack, I like the idea of the KKK and/or Al-Queda running bzflag servers. It would keep them busy doing something more con...

Matter of fact, I have died a number of times on servers where even with that default setting, I have still blown up because I managed to "outrun" the gm slightly. In real life, a guided missile isn't really armed until seconds after leaving the barrel or the launching rail. This is to pre...

Re: Hide objects from radar

Is there any way to prevent an object from appearing on the radar? I'm creating a map entirely contained in a room above the ground, and the floor of the room is hiding everything else on the radar. Just put # signs on the lines in front of the objects in your map file. Then they won't show up on r...

Another curious topic is that the '/poll ban' can do only if the IP adress of offender is known. Typically, when you can see the IP you can also at least shortban... I could have sworn that /poll ban uses the callsign as the player identifier, not the IP, thereby allowing non-admins to run it. ??????

Yes, all polling options default to on. Oh. My opinion: it would probably be best to set only the kick option on by default, all the rest off. /poll reset has not been implemented. Do people think this would be a good thing to have, to ease changing things back to defaults, or would it just cause a...
