Sandy McGee Beach

Image Image Image Image

I started this a very long time ago and gave up, and when I was walking down the beach today, the idea came back to me. It's been a while since i've done any mapping. Unfortunately I had lost the old map file, so I started again from scratch. Instead, i'm using meshes instead of meshboxes - it's my first fully-meshed map (well, almost).

As you probably guessed it's set on a beach with a headland in the middle, and cliffs behind. There is a big ancient ruin in the middle too. (I had to fill up some space ;P )

It's 2-team CTF, red vs. green. To get to the other side you can go through the sea which is quicker, but more open and has a slippy physics driver, so the tank is hard to control; you can also go over the top of the clif, which takes longer, but is safer. There are flags on the platforms out at sea - GM and L are furthest away, CL and ST are closest, and the are SW on the one in the middle. There are other flags on the cliff too.

The cotton-reel textures are from some photos I took of one that was washed up on the beach, and the trees are some I made a while ago (Purple panzer has used them in one of his maps, If you recognise them.

I don't mind who hosts this map, so long as they give me credit in the public or server message. It would be nice if you dropped me a PM too, thanks.

Very nice job. I can see that you definitely know how to make maps. :)

Hm...

It looks cool, but here comes my rant about how 2.0 always seems to be lacking a certain "something" in the playability department.. :E

Your cliffs, it seems as people climb up them, the other team may be able to camp. Also, maybe lower the shot range on the GM, seeing as people could conciveably camp on the platform?

I was thinking about lowering the GM range, yeah.

As for the cliffs issue, time will tell. Once these textures go through, i'll have it on a server for testing.

I know 2.0 maps never win you over, win, but i did think a bit about playablility, for example the cliffs have a flat face around the bottom to rico works nicely without shooting all over the place ;) I also set _noClimb 0 so it's hard to get stuck on the cliff. just jump or reverse.

If you only knew, Muffin. If you only knew...

Very nice, Spazzy! The color of the sand isn't my favorite, but otherwise it looks very colorful, shiny and awesomely awesome. :D I want to play...

Spazzy, My downloading stops after texture 5, i don't know what's wrong but it kind of freezes up. any help there? *

The error is when i connect to it through client

~EDIT~It was the beach, anyways, i got through, i just had to wait like 5 mins. (I'm very impatient) Well, VERY Nice, map.

~Suggestions~ G~Rock, Very Easy to get to if you time your jump right, But i think you should make it higher, instead of lower.

OO, It is possible to kill people on the beach and Sea if you have OO, but u have to be really close, It is
Nigh impossible to kill. other than that, GREAT MAP <CONGRATS>!!!

Nice map. If you land on the water, does it kill you? (most likely, I guess)
I'll play as soon as I get my internet back at home :D

No the Water does not kill you if you land on it.

Really? Wow... I'm used to the water drowning me... What happens, then?

You can drive in the water, but with impaired controls - (you accelerate slowly and you can't jump as high)

And if you go off the edge of map you die for "you were lost at sea" or something like that, just a nice plugin

Why would that need to be a plugin?

by Davy Jones
What are you talking about CBG? Have you ever even played that map in question? It is a plug-in that they die when they go to the edge of the map at sea.

heh, no plugin. You can define death physics in the map file, no need for a plugin.

Just apply this to a mesh object, and when applied if a tank touches that object it will die.

Code: Select all

physics
  name death
  death You're Dead!
end
