Cap Limit (proposed by Zongo)

I'm posting this on behalf of Zongo (for the original conversation, check the May 25 #dub logs):

Games should be declared won at 10 flags like in the 1vs1 league. I insist on this point - I felt very bad the first time that i lost 23-0 vs VBZ, and many new teams just quit the league coz they get pwned.
If the first team that reaches 10 wins, this wont happen. I looked all the played games in the league and normally the even scores are low (the best i saw is 7-7). I saw 9-8 once but thats the best close score that was registered so setting 10 as a limit seems reasonable.

Now I feel bad :(
seriously
no, I'm not smiling!

That is an excellent idea, if Z's research on close scoring matches not exceeding 10 is correct, this looks like a good number. I'm all for it.

I know that when I'm playing a match and the game is heavily one-sided, it isn't fun having a 10 point lead after 15 minutes (even less fun for the other team). There are different views regarding what to do with the extra time instead of building up an even bigger score (not trying to create a topic on that). This would fix that.

by the way, the biggest point game was 18, not 23 :)

cheers!

Agreed, this seems sensible however I look at it.

I agree, but suggest one modification - 10 cap limit but have to win by 2 caps. That way if the score (however unlikey) is 10-9, it doesn't end with time left on the clock.

True for VBZ-DUB (though we had 3 games in a row 13-0, 15-0 and 18-0 or smthing like that)

But i found 3 games ended with 24 as a team score:

HoW-Jumping tank 24-0
TLZ-Deleted team 24-1
VBZ-Street-Kart-Racers 24-1

One game with 25:

TLZ-Deleted team 25-0

...and one game...

HOW-Deleted team 31-1.......

Most of the teams who lost with bad scores are now deleted or highly inactive.

Btw Sportchick's idea could be good though i prefer the "sudden death" :)
(simpler rule, it's up to 10 whatever happens) But thats my opinion ;)
Cheers

if you put a cap limit on 10 so the game ends, do you want to put a maximum time on it to?

for example after 30 min, there isnt always a team with 10 captures. So or we say: it ends after 30 min anyway (or whatever time is choosen if that idea is going to be reality) or we say we play till we have 10 captures?

Playing until ten captures could take hours and I'm fairly sure it wasn't what Zongo suggested. As I see it what we were talking about was standard match format but just ending the match early if one team got to ten.

I like the idea that a match ends either after 30 minutes or when one team captured ten times. I believe every new team which starts playing in the ducati league gets beaten in the first few matches. Because they are new and just don't have the skill. But if they play like 0-16, it's normal that they don't enjoy the matches and therefore stop playing.
0-10 is not nice either, but acceptable. And the slaughter finds a quicker ending.

personally, I think it's a disgrace that teams would cap so much in a match - its a great idea if you want new teams to never play another match.

A Cap Limit should not be needed, teams should use common sense and be KIND to new teams...
Though, evidently, it is needed. I agree a match should stop if:
one team has 10 or more caps AND has 2 or more caps more than the other team...
If this doesn't happen, in 30 mins, stop anyway (of course).

Thats what i meant, max time is of course 30 min :)
I know it can take forever to even just _kill_ someone 10 times in 1vs1 games ;)

I have agreed in the past with this, and usually practice it myself w/ newer teams, but it is a lousy feeling when you know that a team is just being nice and not capping. I'd personally rather know the full truth of my own ineptitude. I think I like the 10 point limit.

i vote for 7.
Infact 6,7,8,or 9 all equal. But seven is a magical number.

I would say it is best to have a slightly higher number for a cap limit, than to
low. Because what if it is a close game, and some one reached a cap number,
say 7, at 20 minutes into the game, but the other team is at 4. It is not hard
to see that team gaining 3 caps in 10 minutes, or more! Better to allow some
teams to get a higher cap ratio, than to actually cause other teams to loose
due to a techincality even when they could have won in the normal time limit.

omg its the diffenence between the points
If 1 team reach 7 points more than the other.
esp: 7:0
or 17:7
if 7:6 the difference is only 1 point, why schould a match end at this moment.

That is why it was suggested that the cap limit be at 10 and that the match only ends if the team has 2 more than the other team.
For example:
10-9, the game does not stop.
10-8 or 10-7 etc, the game does stop

If the match is 30 mins long, by the time 18 (10+8) caps are made the clock will surely be almost done. There will probably only be 2 or 3 minutes left, not really enough time to see the team with 8 cap 3 more times to win. That would take a miracle.
Whereas, if it is 10-0, then there may be 15 minutes left on the clock, so sure, it is possible that the team with 0 could cap enough to win in that time, but if they capped none so far, what is the chance of that?
