Section 4: Team rewards and penalties
I have referenced this section several times, and it is my hope to give some
new suggestions for keeping teams and players around. My premise here is to
create a more rewarding atmosphere in the league. As it stands, the league
offers a single source of reward, team points. Beyond that, any further
gratification is left to the personal desires of the players. What I think is
that there should be more than one way of showing recognition to teams.
Activity rewards
The current system is to reward winners of matches, and of course the losers
take their medicine (yes yes, you can pass on the flack, I could care less).
We are trying to get teams more active, so it would seem useful to present
another ranking based on the number of matches played. Either per month, or
lifetime, or both! Rewards can be either a rank, or as is seen in the bzbb,
recognition in the form of special titles. Now I think it would be prudent to
start such a system on an even ground, such that all teams start at the same
level (even the older ones). After that, let things run their course, and the
teams who are most active will get their own recognition even if they loose
each game.
New teams
It is also possible to have a "new team of the month" competition, where teams
(probably younger than 2-3 months?) have separate comparisons and place of
recognition. This way they don't have to stair at the rankings and wonder how
they can ever catch up with the top teams.
Starting teams up
To bring in [dmp]'s post, specifically the
section on jr teams. Where we have all new teams starting out with a jr
ranking, and after a set number of matches, new members, or age, they gain
"full team" status. I'm not sure this is the way to go about this. New teams
probably would not like being looked down like that. Maybe its just me, but
that doesn't sounds like a fun prospect.
I do like [dmp]'s idea on, after a team plays a number of matches, gets a
system and forum post celebrating the fact. This could even be extended to
the 50th, 100th, 500th matches and beyond.
really, what I am trying to present here is the idea that the league itself
gives recognition and awards teams, especially ones that are not yet in the
close knit fold that the older teams are in. Any way we can make new teams
feel welcome and wanted is a bonus to the league, and to those teams.
MVP
Ducati league is a team sport, and so the individual is not really
considered nearly as closely as the team is. As is rightly so! How ever,
teams are built of individual players, and some thing should be done for them.
As is popular in professional sports, a "most valued player" award could be
considered for a bi yearly (after the team scores are reset, assuming that
plan is instituted) award. It could be a team vote, then move to a league
wide vote on who the best, and most useful team player is in the league. Of
course stringent conditions would have to be set, but thats neither here nor
there.
