I counted 19 louman maps. Why so many?

Becuase he likes to make maps, he finds it fun. ( I assume)

most mappers have made many maps, DW (ducatiwannabe) has made over 200, I have made over 20, Dutchrai has made about 15.

and he puts them all on servers because he has the recources to, and finds the kindness in his heart to give away his bandwidth for free, so others can play his maps.

"map" does not mean the same thing as "server". a server hosts a game; a map is just a file that defines the world inside the game.

There are 166 servers, but I'm sure there are thousands of maps.

All of LouMan's maps are all hosted on 2 physical servers, with each map being hosted on a different port. And the reason why he has so many maps hosted is that they all get played very regularly. If no one played on them we would probably put something else up, but why stop a good thing when you've got it. :P

Uh, I really wish that norang wouldn't spam the listserver with so many... a rotation would serve nicely.

in the next bzflag release they should add in a button to the sever listing page, "Shorten the List" and that removes all norang.ca from your local list, shortening it by quite a bit

or just make it so it shortens the list to servers that have 1 or more players on it

i don't see why everyone is bothered by it, because if you only want populated servers, it's only the frst 2 pages. if you want a specific server, use the search.

OR
They could make it so all the servers that are not being used are in alphabetical order.

That's exactly what they already do, and it's a pretty lame method, if you ask me.

Actually, these are called servers...you enter the server and the server is like a room to play in. All rooms use a map...

There are servers which you join and maps which you play on. If a server didn't have a map you wouldn't be able to play, even though the room was there...

Anyway...

There are thousands of maps. How do I know this? I've got over a thousand on my computer...

LouMan's maps are all hosted cause they are all good...;) they're great to look at and great to play.

hmm nice to go in enhancements?

Good idea, that would put it down to about 120 or so

Maybe if you didn't like a certain server you could block it out of your list. Or you could ignore it.

Personally, you've got to be nuts not to like the norang server :P 8)

I don't see any reason not to like a server. If you block it out you wouldn't notice possible positive changes.

The norang servers are a blessing, not only to me, but to many other map makers out there that have maps hosted on his servers. Thumper has graciously spent a great deal of time setting up these servers and we should all be grateful that he does so. He has a fairly sophisticated system set up with servers that optimizes the bandwidth he offers. He also hosts several excellent, I mean excellent, web sites dedicated to these servers and their upkeep. The louman.bzflag.bz servers are also run by him, with the bandwidth being generously given by someone else.

It is beyond me how anyone could complain about the quantity of servers being listed in the listserver - isn't the plethora of choices a good thing for the game as a whole?
