New Stuff...New Command

Post by ducatiwannabe »

Perhaps there could be a /watchfor command

Example: /watchfor "Spazzy Mcgee"

It would tell me when he is online and where.

hey yeah, nice idea. but it would have to check the server often, and this could cause lagage i suppose. but it would be great kust to do a /watchfor "ducatiwannabe" and it tells me which server and port they are on if i want to talk or something. or to just watch for when friends come on to play against.

sounds good to me you could use Ips as well because people change there names -- although this does seem a little pointless

...or you could minimize bzflag, go to http://my.bzflag.org and do a search for the player, and see what server he is on :)

DW, this would be VERY easy to do with a plugin I think. I'll add it to my list. :p

a server dosn't have any knowledge of other servers, so how would it or a plugin runing on it KNOW what server somone else is on.

the only way to do it is to use some central system like the list server and my.bzflag.org to track clients. But as you say it's not allways current, because we don't require clients to tell the list server where they are going to.

what you are asking for is the same thing that others ask for in a "friends" list.

It requires the global registration system that just started being used. Once the system is enhanced things like this become easyer.

Wouldn't it still be possible besides the fact the data may be up to 5 minutes old?

I would still like it. :D

EDIT: You say clients don't need to tell the listserver, but bzfs does. As soon as the plugin sees someone on the current players list after doing that command at one server (only works if you stay at the server) it notifies you at what server they are at. Of course, for this to work at multiple servers would need some BZFlag (and listserver) mods.

yes but that is the same as going to the website.

also bzfs dosn't tell the list server who signs on and off, the stats page polls all the servers, that's why it's not as accurate as it could be.

you could make a plugin that did basicly what a web page did, but it would not be any more accurate.
