This Christmas holiday I spent some time playing with the BZFlag source. Here's what I've come up with so far:
BZFlag has some excellent special effects and artwork, but the geometry is, for gameplay reasons I presume, a little basic. And no matter how well you texture a box or a plane, it's still a box or a plane. So I decided to dumb everything down a little bit and give it more of a "comic book" feel.
It's rather ugly and unclean (it could really use some anti-aliasing and better stenciling), but I find it fun to look at for a change. What do you guys think?

I like that, strangely. especially the bullets.
what did you do? just change stuff in the data folder, or mod the source?

Yeah, I modded the source. Everything is drawn with no textures, twice. Once for the filled polygons and again for lines. It was a pretty simple hack, with a few exceptions. It took me a while to get it to draw the back-facing box walls. The bullets are also proving difficult, because I want them to do fake "comic book" lighting on the walls and ground. The ground lighting works, but that is a bit easier than the walls.

That's really neat. Sure it needs some cleaning up, but it's unique.

very nice concept... a bit of graphics work on it, and that could be a total graphics remake!
this must be possible somewhere in just the texture images... i'll have to check

I like it a lot. It does need some anti-aliasing, but other than that I like it!

How can we recompile that?
We take the source and a C++ compiler?

you may have to ask him(Sax) for the code. I believe he did that on 2.0.2, so unless you are willing to put that on your machine, he would have to do it again.
