On some servers they get full very quickly and then you are forced to be an observer.

It would be nice if there could be a queue system so that when someone leaves you become a player.

What if you don't want to become a player?
Do you get the option to join or Not-join this queue?

Well if your set yourself to automatic / or a colour then that implies you want to be a tank.

If you set yourself to observer then it knows you only want to watch

What if you change your mind when you become an observer?

If you want to be an observer, you can. If you choose auto/colored team, then you'd be put in teh queue.

There is a "queue" system: sit there as an observer and wait to see someone sign off on the consol then quickly rejoin. How lazy has our society become?

What if you wanted to play, but ended us as observer, then start talking to the other observers... Maybe then you don't want to play, you want to stay in observer to talk or whatch...

Perhaps it could be a patch for some people who want that? I don't know. I think it would have a conflict if there are about 6 other people also wanting to play.

I think whast he means is that a message would pop up saying "Would you like to join as a player?" and then there would be an option saying "Yes" or "No". Maybe it could use some "quick-joining" thing.

BZFlag with popups? what is this world coming to?

Not a pop-up, just a message, like the main menu. Not a pop-up. Lol.

*sigh* i remeber playing bzflag before it was released to the world. That was pretty cool already. Then i started playing on 1.7 a nice and simple going around in a tank shooting game. Now its getting all weird and more sci-fi. :tired: i think i like the old one better :\

This is how I was thinking of the queue system to clear things up:

1. A person joins a full server with the request to be on a team.
2. That person is put in observer, but he is assigned a queue number.
3. When somebody leavs the server, the person with the lowest queue number would be put into the server.

If you join the game as an observer, you wouldn't be put into the queue, you'd just be an observer.

I came in on 1.6, something like that, ya, it was pretty cool then too, and it has grown alot since then...

alot of my favorite servers/maps then did not go over to 2.0, and i kept looking for them forever...

and if bzflag wasnt released to the world, then how did anyone play it?

What about in the private match servers like gamesunited??? you cant join in because its an official match

Then you simply join as observer.

As for changing your mind and deciding you want to stay observer, there are a few options. One would be to rejoin as observer.

My idea: Two new commands.
/queue enter
/queue exit
Maybe you can queue for a certain color? :P

Good. How about a combination of mine and yours? it would tell you when it's your turn to come in. If you say "No", it would take you off the queue, but you can choose if want to join back at any time.
