I'm having trouble getting time to run

Post by spldart »

I have synctime and synclocation on in the conf file. I have long and latit set too. But you log in and the sun never moves it's always at the position that longit and latit set it at but never continues across the sky.
Any idea what I'm missing.

2.0 server, win 98 box, on internet and lan, xp on the rest of the machines... Ask if you need more input to help answer.

Thanks :)

Just a debugging step: Try to press + and - while in game. After repeteadly pressing one of those buttons, the sun should move. Report what happens.

Sun does not move. At all. I even held the keys.

with synctime set the sun will not move. did you set latitude and longitude on the server, or on the client? Should be -set _latitude N and -set _longitude M in the config file.

I set long and latitude on the server in the .conf file. It does move the sun as I change them but it's like the clock isn't running. :(

Some more troubleshooting info.
I can change the variable after /set _syncTime in the console on the client and move the sun manually that way. But that's no fun. Takes large numbers to make it go too.

Ok... I'm hitting my head on my 32" monitor on this and it's starting to hurt :(

It may be TMI but...

My .conf file is:
***************************
-sb
-j
-mp 10
-ms 10
-p 5123
-vars vars.txt
-set _latitude 29.64020
-set _longitude -95.63426
-synctime
-synclocation
+f GM{6}
+f L{5}
+f WG{8}
+f SW{4}
-fb
-password wouldntyouliketoknow
-q
+r
-requireudp
-s 10
-sa
-spamtime 10
-srvmsg "They say time is the fire in which we burn."
-st 10
-sw 1
-world "C:\bz\BZFlag2.0.0\modtowerZ.bzw"
***************************************

My map, a modified towerZ2, is running these options:
**************************************
-set _tankSpeed 30.000000
-set _rainType snow
-set _wingsJumpVelocity 19.000000
-set _skyColor DarkBlue
-set _shockOutRadius 30.000000
-set _trackFade 1000
-set _rainDensity 1000
-set _rainBaseColor white
-set _rainRoofs 1000
-set _useLineRain 1
-set _wingsJumpCount 12.000000
+s 60 -s 60
**************************************

I start the map on my server using:
**************************************
C:\bz\BZFlag2.0.0\bzfs.exe -conf C:\bz\BZFlag2.0.0\data\bzfs.conf
**************************************
On a shortcut in my startup folder.

And I start my BZFlag on other machines in my lan with:
**************************************
C:\BZ\BZFlag2.0.0\bzflag.exe whoever@my.ho.me.IP:5123
**************************************

The sun never moves. I can change the long and lat to change the position of the sun but it just sits there day and night.
No other ideas???

Oh. And if I log onto the map and type:
/set

scroll up with page up key and I see:

spldart /set _syncLocation -1#.QNAN0 true
spldart /set _syncTime 1.000000 1.0

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem and imposible to solve it.
Did you got a solution, spldart ?

I have _latitude, _longitude, _syncLocation (to 1?), and _syncTime (tried several values, but I don't know what to put) set, but sun never moves.

Is it normal or should it follow the time ?

Sorry for my bad english.
I know there are Frenchies here so they can try to help me by email ;-) : chris at novazur dot com
Thanks a lot.

Hey cris :)

Here's the thread I was talking to you about on your server:
http://my.bzflag.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2942

It seems you have everything, but try changing the values "-". IE, the default is eastern hemospher (I think) so if you're west 40 then it would be -40, not [+]40.

The people on that thread had your problem and I think it's been resolved.
1veedo (libcurl.so.2) I have version 3!

Thank you but I saw this thread before, and already tried negatives values and all what I can and sun never moves.

I had searched, found that thread as well, and tried negative values. But Time doesn't change and sun never moves :(

Well. I broke out and put the final parts in the newer faster machine that I intend to replace my current server with. It will eventually run all the same apps. Abyss personal web server, Winroute by Kerio and BZFlag. I just freshly installed, or unpacked i guess is more appropriate terminology) bzflag and set it up on the lan. I then logged into it with the various machines in my network. Time still doesn't change.... No night\day.

Honestly... Does noone have a clue what might be happening here?
Is there any more info I can supply that I haven't already?

And in /set this was what it read in the game:
spldart /set _syncLocation -1#.QNAN0 true
spldart /set _syncTime 1.000000 1.0
The solution to my no time problem was to go into the game logged in as admin and type [ /set _syncTime -1 ].
How do I get the server to start with the _syncTime at -1?
I would like to not have to always log in every time I restart the server just to set that to -1 and get time running again.

Are you sure you have time set by server and not by the client with syncTime -1 ???

I don't understand anything so...

Once I had done this I could log onto the map from any other machine in my lan or from my machine at work and time was always right and running. So server was setting the time. Although I didn't try and fool the situation by setting a clock wrong on a machine as if it was in a different time zone and see if that changed the time percieved in the map.

Setting var at server startup

Post by Thumper »

You can set server vars at server startup using the bzfs option

-vars varfile.dat

and put the settings you want in varfile.dat

eg.
--- contents of varfile.dat ---
set _rejoinTime 0
set _wingsSlideTime 0.5
set _maxBumpHeight 0
--- end of varfile.dat ---

Set whatever server variables you need.

HTH,
Thumper.

Yes, I tried, but as I thought, with _syncTime -1, time is not set by server but by the client.
You even change time with "-" and "+" keys...

That's not what I'm looking for.
No solution to have time set by the server and "running" ?

Yep. I confirmed what you have experienced. I fixed my time problem. But the maps sun positions is relative to the local computer time and not the server.

I already knew that ;-) and so, I don't undestand what all _longitude, _latitude, _syncTime, _syncLocation are for.
Also, I never found a server that really use it... not really implemented (asked to devels) ?
