People joining

Post by ducatiwannabe »

On my server, some people get in fine, others join, and instantly leave, dont even pop in or shoot. Anybody know why? First I tried without UDP then with, same thing. A lil help?

oh sorry :( I dunno, why does that matter? not trying to argue or anything, your a patient guy and have to help about 1000 a day, its just why would some be able to and others not? They dont even get lag kicked ,its like if you enter a server with bots that dont allow them, and they just sign off.

if you don't have enough bandwith they could be going NR, due to not receving enough data, and timing out.

how many people play when this happens? and how much upstream bandwith do you have?

But thats not whats happening :( It doesnt say they go nr either. Some get in just fine, and some (most of them) just can't get in, I had 8 of 10 in a server last night, lots could join, but many joined and exited just like bots do :/

Not sure but I think this is also the behavior in cases where matches are made by callsignfilter or bans (check if you have any bans on addresses containing range wildcards ('*')).

IP bans don't even let them connect. hostmastk bans and callsign things don't even let them spawn.

Here's some things that might cause players to get kicked/dropped:
  • UDP port of server is blocked and -requireUDP is used
  • Their username is registered, and they spawn without identifying (assuming REQUIREIDENTIFY for registered players)
  • Bandwidth is saturated (when they join, they see all other tanks go NR, and a few seconds later they drop)

Either UDP or bandwidth then, cause it did that when I used, and when Iturned off UDP......is there a way to fix bandwith? or just get a new connection :( ?

Try setting a lower player/shot limit, and see if the issues continue. Also, what is your upstream bandwidth? (the speed your connection can send out at)

I believe it's about 40kbps going out, and 1.5mbps coming in :/

And I think I'll change shots to 3 and only having 4-10 people (not including observers)

40k would be very small, most common ones are 128k up or better. standard DSL in most places is 128 down 1.5 up.

you can use the speed tests at www.dslreports.com to test your speed.

hmm 700 down 300 up, an odd combo it should run a couple people, basicly you've got about 6 dialups of bandwith, so I'd say about 4-5 people if they use DSL too. maybe 6-7 if you'r lucky.
