mappers competiton number 1

 I was thinking that we should have a map makeing contest. Whoever makes the best map wins. There are a few rules and limitations (of course)

 the maps are to be judged by gameplay and overall awsomeness
who are the judeges? All of us. (you cannot judge your own map)

 As a first competition the rules are rather simple. make a triangular map. The map can be anything you wish as long as it displays some sort of triangular symetry.

 The competition will go on for a month (april 25) before a winner is anounced.

I guess you could make a three map (although no one will be able to test it) and the difference isn't that big , is it?

unless he makes a crappy 3.0 map

note: this has to be a new map, you can't submit some triangle map you made 3 years ago

Everyone will be able to test it. You just need to download a 2.99.x client from the Game Releases section then join the server.

There are lots of things that are different in 3.0.0 such as bases being meshes and teleporters being meshes. Teleporters can also allow only one team in.

His map doesn't suck at all. Obviously you haven't seen it or don't know what 3.0 map he's talking about.

I wasn't talking about the map he made, it is great.

I was saying that a bad map will not win just because it is a 3.0 map.

and last time I checked all of the 2.99x download links were dead.

also, mesh bases and teles is not that big a difference (unless they are a major part of the map)

the main point of the competition is to stretch everyones creativity. So make something and have fun :D

I'd also like to enter my map called "Trigal". Also, a ducati style map with no jumping. It is an island map surrounded by water with 3 shots.

Some textures still need to be approved so I will post the map file when that happens.

A preview can currently be seen on my blog: http://bzbureau.com/?p=42

How can you say it's ducati style when there is 3 shots
and no ricochet?!

Ducati = 2 shots, rico, no jumping. Trigal is 3 shots, no rico, no jumping.

Erm sorry, i meant to say there IS ricochet :(

The only difference is the number of shots.

Sorry about that.

Just curious, hutty, have you figured out a system for tabulating votes (or some other means of determining a winner)?

eveyone gets 2 votes and posts them on this topic

Let's not...

PM your 2 votes to huttymuncher so he can compile them and then announce the winner.

alright, here is the revised (radar guides, updated spawns/bases) version of my Ocean Battlezone map. Two versions:

The original map:
OceanBattlezone.bzw
(28.98 KiB) Downloaded 202 times
A version with Anomaly's fancy water. No difference in gameplay, just aesthetics:
OceanBattlezone(Fancy).bzw
(220.52 KiB) Downloaded 227 times
Update: I discovered a small imperfection shortly after posting the map files. It is now fixed and I have reuploaded the files, so if anyone has already downloaded, please do so again. Thanks.

This is Earthling. It is a BZFlag 3.0 map, and it will not work with current 2.0.x versions of the server.

It is a three-team CTF for red, green and blue. I have included all of those options in the map file, so you should be able to start it fine without a conf. I think all of the textures are hosted, but let me know if you can't get some and i'll host them. You may need to edit your download access as some might be on the planet-mofo server.

It features circular mesh-bases, horizontal teleporters, and more.

Cheers,
Spazzy.

Oh, and because many of you won't be able to start the map to test it (and vote, if you wish), here are some screenshots and a video :)

Christ, Spazzy, it's like comparing doodles to the Mona Lisa. The only shot I have at winning now is bribery. (behind this happy emoticon, I'm crying in the shower)

Just to clarify and make sure my submission is official, heres the map file:
Trigal.bzw
(235.13 KiB) Downloaded 243 times
It is also up at bzbureau.com:5198 if you'd like to view it there

P.S. I don't think anyone has a chance going up against Spazzy, and I'm going with Strakowski....bribery it is
