heya!

I've been thinking about this for quite a while and yesterday a couple of players got into a discussion about getting another RikerCup Tournament going, so I thought I'd post something.
Especially since there are a lot of really good players that didn't get to participate in lasts years RikerCup.

For those players who don't know what this is, let me just briefly explain:

The best American players vs. the best European players

Since last years edition was such a success I don't see why we can't have another one? :)
I'm sure there are a lot of players who would be willing to help organize it, including me. (Setting up a website and all that.)

Let me know who is ready to do this!

Cool. :) Just to remind everyone. I'm not exactly the head of this tournament. I just wanted to put the word out there and see who is interested and who is willing to help. All I'm doing is suggesting some things. Maybe some player with more authority can give some official input, perhaps one of the admins. I started this same topic here: http://www.gamesunited.de/ib/index.php?showtopic=14267
Because most of the GU Players check that forum, rather than here.

I talked to The Doink today, and he said he'd be organizing this tournament. A Heart Attack and I have put together a little site: http://bzpro.net/rikercup/
You can read up what the plan is right there.

The website is still under heavy maintenance, things are gonna be added and cleaned up shortly.

If ya have any suggestions or questions, it's best to talk to Doink or just post here.
Can't wait!

No, it's America vs Europe. "The Best of the West vs the Best of the Rest" is just a slogan. Australian players don't get to play in the Riker Cup, AFAIK.
And the Australians are in a completely different time zone than the Americans. -> http://www.worldtimezone.com/

I was under the impression that last years Riker's Cup team location issue was settled by saying it was basically western hemisphere vs eastern hemisphere. I'd say that's a pretty fair way of grouping so everyone get's a shot at participating.

It's America vs Europe...having Australian or New Zealand players would cause serious lag issues as QD pointed out.

Well, as long as we are being asked our opinions, I'd agree with slime here. And the Cup sounds like a blast. I do not really have a preference either way regarding the one or two leader situation. I thought it worked well last year, however.

So the many Canadian players aren't allowed to participate now? Besides, we've all played the Australian and New Zealand before and now what to expect with their lag. It just doesn't seem right to me that such a big and fun event isn't open to everyone.

It would usually be hard for Australian/New Zealand players to make the time anyway, however, now that school is off, we're sure to be around. We would, speaking generally, love to participate but understand the troubles it can and probably will cause.

If only we were organised enough to start our own competitions. :)

With "America" I'm talking about North America, Canada and South America, which is how it was last time too?
I have nothing against Australian/New Zealand players participating, just thought it was America vs Europe. Best ask Doink, as he's the tournament organizer or you might as well just show up at that pre-match meet up, since everything gets decided there it seems.
Lets get back on topic, anyone got some more opinions on this pre-match meet-up system?

i understand lag might be a problem.

i dont really mind that much though

i agree with the having 2 captains instead of this pre-date stuff..much easier.

I actually kinda suggest three players to be the "leaders" and form the teams. Either that, or a polling system of some sort so the players themselves can decide. But to keep things relatively uncomplicated... 2 leaders is fine with me. Pre-match, nah. ;) Nice idea though.

I think the pre match thing is a kool idea but there might be the problem that not everyone will have the time to show up at the "pre-match". Maybe a mixture out of the captains-thing and the pre-match will work.

That is correct. Players are members of the BZFlag GU League. You can google it to find the website.
