need advice on DOS attacks

Post by a dead man »

I'm a complete noob as far as this stuff goes, but first a little background. I have been running a server for some time now and every so often my machine will completely freeze on me, I can't even access by remote from my lan. This only happens when I am running bzfs. I am assuming that I have been hit by a dos attack since the first time it happened I was online (on another machine, playing the game) and the dude that did it told me he was going to do it, bang, my server locked up. what I want to know is, what's the best way to protect my server against these sort of attacks, research indicates that it is a very hard problem to solve, but at this stage I want to cut out at least the simple dos stuff. any one got any ideas?

on
bzflag 2.0.8
Mac OS X 10.4.7
cheers

If someone really hates you they can DoS without you running BZFS. All BZFS really does is make it dead simple to get your IP. ;)

Mayby try a firewall. Hardware one. It'll probably block most DoS.
I haven't touched BZFlag for years, but maybe sometime I'll make a comeback.

I'm on Twitter. And I mess with webOS. This signature is not a blog.
