I would like to see _tankSpeed separated into 2 variables:
_tankForwardSpeed and _tankReverseSpeed
I think that this would allow you to set up some interesting gameplay. How often have you been reversing away from a SW or something and can't move fast enough? If the speeds were set up the same, you could at least keep pace away from an opponent in reverse.
I can think of other variations that also might be interesting - reverse faster than forward? Reverse really slow?
Just a thought.

yeah, i would like to see this. what is the formula for reverse sped at the moment? is it just half the forward speed?
with seperate values you could have sme interesting things like no reverse or reverse only games...

I hate it when reverse is really slow and it takes ages just to reverse enough so you can jump onto a wall or something.

Excellent idea. By the way, reverse speed is forward * 0.5

It'd be funny if you went REALLY REALLY slow forwards but when you went backwards you went flying!

Not so much in an M1, where the 120mm smoothbore gives you huge standoff... but in the M60 series tanks, you spent a LOT of time in reverse, as you always want to keep your thick frontal armor toward the enemy and your grille doors on the back of the tank away from him.
BZ is different... you have the same PK (probability of kill) from any angle, and there's no articulated turret.
In terms of playability, I think higher reverse speeds will somewhat favor the better radar users. I still rely too much on out-the-window views to get my work done, I need to get better at splitting my attention between window and radar.
If I have a long range weapon, like laser, I check to see if anyone is ST (and thus can sneak in behind me) and if not, I spend most of my time backing up... increasing distance to the enemy always favors me. In that case, I'd love higher reverse speeds.
