wait. have the temples in opposite corners, rather than straight across, or maybe slightly offset like this:

Good Flags, or something in the other corners.

hmmm. i'm just thinking about gameplay and layout here.
This has to be fun to play as well as lookm pretty

I dont know why it has to be temples. I dont like that idea. I think nests in trees with the bases in them is a pretty good idea. And around the nest in the one tree is like a platform so tanks can land next to the base instead of on it.

to export to bzw, there is a wings to bzw plugin. search the forums for it. It only works on the most recent versions of wings, so you need, the latest versions of the OS your using (you use Mac OS X Tiger don't you?)

I added my textures after i exported.

For real help on 3D moddeling you want to talk to BIYA. I'm just a beginner.

I need my textures hosted before I post the code for my stump!!!!

Aztec pyramids

Post by capt_crunch »

If you want to go with the Aztec/jungle idea, here's an image of a pyramid at Chichen Itza in the Yucatan.

game playability

Playability is also big on my mind. My original idea was that most tanks would be able to fly; i.e. Wings flags heavily scattered everywhere. Other flags would also be around for variety. The team flag carrier would probably not survive going across the map without cover from flying teammates.

I was also thinking that tanks could fly from tree to tree, but flaps would be limited so that they had to be a bit skilled to stay in the treetops. There would be an understory of smaller trees, mushrooms, or something else to give the map multiple flying pathways at different elevations.

Whadda ya think?

Another idea for bridges

Another idea for bridges: fallen logs across the ravine. Might look cool!

lot's of good ideas, this map is going to be pretty good I think. Also in the jungle, you could have thick trees that your tank can't frive threw, but you can shoot bullets between the trees. Get what I mean...

alrighty i will make one like that.
wait, it's probably easier to do that with meshboxes in a text editor. i'll try that - that's how i'v been mapping for the past million years.

Made with mesh's in wings 3D will definitly be smaller, we have to think about size and profiency here to guys.

smaller?

i would have thought it much better to make that aztech pyramid in a text editor, and take up less space in the map file. i see no disadvantage.

Wings3d not good for trees; found free(?) tree model

Post by capt_crunch »

I spent some time this morning looking for tutorials on tree modeling in Wings3d. It looks like other tools are more suited for generating fractals; I found one question on the Wings3D forums about trees and didn't see any good responses.

I then found this site where it appears you can download a free model of a tree:

http://3dp2.0catch.com/potm/plant%20of% ... month.html

If the link doesn't work, go to 3dplants.com and click on "download plant of the month".

The terms of use appear to suggest that we can use it for 3d games:
YOU ARE ALLOWED TO use this model for the creation of 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional scenes or animations for use in commercial art projects, multi-media applications, architectural or landscape designs, 3D games, virtual reality simulations, etc...

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO sell or distribute this model as an individual 3D mesh model or 3D object, or sell or distribute the associated object geometry or texture files, or modified versions thereof, or post or distribute any files or material from which these geometries or associated files can be extracted.
