BZW Exporter for Wings3D (v1.1)
BZW Exporter for Wings3D (v1.1)
When exporting large models, WIngs3D would sometimes print
out numbers like "1.2345678e-48", which bzfs can't parse (the
exponent is to small). This update should fix that problem.
1. Download http://trepan.bzflag.bz/wings3d_to_bzw_1.1.tar.gz
(DO NOT OPEN THE FILE, JUST SAVE IT AS: wings3d_to_bzw_1.1.tar.gz)
2. In Wings3D, select the downloaded file for (File -> Install Plug-in)
It should work on any OS supported by Wings3D.

Problem:
I install the plugin fine, it says everything was successful, but when I go to File > Export > .bzw, nothing happens. I even tried clicking on the little rectangle next to BZFlag World (.bzw) in the export menu, and still nothing happened. I resized the main window to make sure the dialog box wasn't hiding somewhere on the screen, and it wasn't there either.

Hmm... after upgrading Wings 3D, I tried to install the plugin again. Put the 2 .beam files in the plugins directory and "successfully installed" it, but now I can't even see it in the Export menu.
I found an error log (i think), and this is what it says:

Rather then placing the .beam files directory into the
directory, you could simply follow the directions at the
top of this topic.
Which version of Wings3D are you using that generated
that log? Looks to me as though the error log was made
by 0.98.29b.
P.S. I could also be that I've screwed something up, but
it seems to me that this little exporter thing is working for
other users.

Hmm... I enjoy the fact that now I can export models right to a .bzw without scaling them or fliping the Y and Z axis, but one thing bugs me:
It seems to mix up matref's. I 'colored' most of my model in Wings 3D with it's color option, and it looked fine on screen. However, I exported it and when ran in BZFS, BZFS outputs this:
EDIT: removed
EDIT: oops, my mistake. I was doing vertex coloring and expecting the exporter to convert it into materials. I just changed all the vertex colors to materials and my stoplight looks like a beast!

Version....
Are You Sure This Will Work With ANY Version of Wings?
i'm running version 0.98.25 on Mac OS 10.2 Jaguar. It dosn't seem to work. I Install it and it says it installed fine, then when i try to export (just a simple box to test it) NOTHING happens at all. not even a save as dialog box.
is it my version or OS or none of the above?

Read the first 6 posts in this topic. If it still
doesn't work, go back and read them again.
Repeat until success finds you.
P.S. The plugin definitely works with the more
recent versions of wings3d as well as the 29b
version. The latest version of wings is worth
the upgrade (CVS is even better, the UV
mapping capabilities are starting to fill in nicely).
