Bad is a matter of opinion. Yes, Battlezone was also an arcade game... but it's probably more difficult to get an image of that. :)

Microsoft actually released a package called "Microsoft Arcade" some years ago that included BattleZone, Centipede, Asteroids, Missile Command, and Tempest.

That "Microsoft Arcade" was pretty fun. Too bad it went away with my old Windows 95 computer :(. Those were fun games, even if I wan't there to play them in their origional form in arcades.

Wow, I'm not the only one who's heard of MS arcade, lol.

I think it would be awesome if PZ changed the graphics to wireframe Battlezone style... :D

...or, what if we had a new flag called "Blast from the Past" (BP), "Legacy Downgrade" (LD), or "Legacy Virus" (LV) that changed the client's POV to that of the old BattleZone. It would be a bad flag since you could no longer have a radar, right click for target, or see color. It would be a super-bad CB flag. ;)

Of course the green outlines of objects won't be exactly like the old game. For all purposes of practicality, they would show the wire frame of BZFlag tanks, etc.

Jeff, you're right, it does have radar, but nothing as helpful as BZFlag's radar. So, may be the radar should be temporarily changed to Battlezone's style?

As for seeing through objects, may be everything should be visible except other tanks?

Well, that is why I like the idea of using PZ... it doesn't matter much if they can see through buildings, because the only ones they can kill are PZ too and have the same edge. It would actually make gameplay a lot different in the zoned state.

Radar doesn't necessarily have to change... if you think about it, they're pretty much the same. sure, the BZFlag radar is more complex, but so is the game.

One graphical challenge, though, would be keeping it from getting disorienting... in battlezone, everything was close to the same size, so it was easy to tell distance. in BZ, there would have to be a more elaborite color fade or something.

Anybody remember Arena on SGI? I haven't found a screenshot online yet, but AFAIR the idea was very close to bzflag.
