STAR WARS in BZFLAG
Hi all!
Just for giggles I made a "Star Wars" pack for BZ (It is simply wav files in the DATA folder).
If you want to try them (they have been tested and work well)
just hop over to:
http://www.theonlinerdiner.com/BZSTARWARS1.zip
Just rename your old DATA folder and then copy and paste this one into the program folder after unzipping.
It has been virus checked and is clean if you get it from my site.
All of the sounds are changed and work quite nicely. I will add images in the next "version".
Enjoy!

My mistake--corrected!
Gee--go figure, I made a small typo--here's the correct and working URL. Sorry for the inconvenience.
It takes a few games for the sounds to be "intiuitive" but after that it's easy.
There is also a "sound sample page" if you want to listen online one at a time to them or just get the details on what sounds I used.
Here's the correct URL for the zipped "data"folder:
www.theonlinerdiner.com/BZSTARWARSv1.zip
Here's the sample page:
www.theonlinerdiner.com/bzstarwars/bzstarwars.html
Some examples:
Steamroller=Imperial ATAT Walker stomping-clank sound
Fire=Lightsaber swing
Shockwave=Imperial TIE Fighter screaming approach sound
Teleport=Darth Vader Breathing
You can also hear Princess Leia, Jabba the Hutt, Darth Vader, R2D2, some Star Wars music--you get the idea.
I will work on matching graphics if I can get the time.

How to make sounds...
Frank Siegert actually told me how to make the sounds years ago and they have not changed much since so here it is for those who are interested...
22,050 hertz
16 bit
stereo (stereo to be safe but I think they can all be mono)
WAV
You need an audio editor such as Goldwave (what I used) or Acoustica (less expensive).
a few years back, they changed the specifications on wave files in microsoft so some wave editors will not render properly for BZ now which uses the old format ones (thoughthis may be changed now).
If your sounds blast static, are super speed or garbled horribly, you have the wrong recording format.
Listen to the sound levels of EACH sound so they are comporable (you don't want a really quite shockwave and a really loud "pop" for example).
If the sounds are too large in size it MAy cause a very slight delay between SEEING the effect that causes the sound and HEARING the sound--though this usally isn't a problem.
dbPowerAmp is a great FREE program for converting files (though it will not edit them) to wav and the proper format--just be sure to pick the right wav type (you may have to get a codec for it). the old version of dbPowerAmp had two wav type selections and one was the proper one. I think the default version now may have only one type.Once you get it up, you can right click on a file and change it.
A person who understands what changed with the wav standard could chime in here and identify which wav type exactly we need?
1--So listen to original sound
2--Edit your new one to similar length
3--Normalize volumes
4--render it to the proper WAv type with dbPowerAmp,
Acoustica, Goldwave, etc.
Glad you like it

Funny you should say that. Not long ago I looked up what kind of sounds you can use for BZFlag, then converted an MP3 that says "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!", and put it in for the sound when your team's flag is captured, I love it.Red Baron wrote:yes mony python!!

Hi Again
Sorry--reallife has assaulted me (the nerve of it!) so I been a busy rodent.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
I love the idea of a "Monty Python's Holy Grail" theme as well as LOTR.
Maybe when you get a cloak flag you would hear Sauron say,"I see you" and when a flag is captured Gimli could say, "That still only counts as one!"
Oh I so need a life
Gimme some time and I'll be back. In the meanwhile feel free to contact me for help if your new at this stuff.
