Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
Did a quick google and it looks like the driver name for this particular package is "intel", so you would be writing "intel" to the driver line. Good luck.
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
The module name might just be "intel" now.

Maybe this is related? I haven't looked too far into it to see if it's the same problem, but it sounds like similar performance issues:

I also see on that bug report the following:

So I'd say to wipe your xorg config and just try that method instead.Disabling the vsync, opengl runs smoothly both inside KDE with no kwin effects both outside on a fluxbox wm.
2100 frames in 5.0 seconds = 420fps
More or less the same performance of lucid.
Inside KDE with kwin effects and no vsync I loose 50% of performance.
Maybe not a xorg-intel bug?
To disable vsync on opengl edit ".drirc" on $HOME direcotry.
cat ~/.drirc
<option name="vblank_mode" value="0"/>
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
can you translate this into beginner-code please?blast wrote: To disable vsync on opengl edit ".drirc" on $HOME direcotry.
cat ~/.drirc

i tried to open this file with
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /home/leviathan/.drirc
what does "cat" mean? do i really write the "<" , ">"?
levi
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
Right, the file probably does not exist yet. Their 'cat' command was just dumping the contents of their file to the terminal. Just create that file and put this inside:
Code: Select all
<option name="vblank_mode" value="0"/>
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
man i'm pretty silly :/ : how to elegantly delete the xorg.conf file, without dealing with permissions... googling it always says i should be very careful with the "rm" command?
so: ?
so:
Code: Select all
rm /home/leviathan/.drirc
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
That's not the xorg.conf file. The xorg.conf would be inside /etc/ somewhere.
find /etc -name xorg.conf
find /etc -name xorg.conf
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
ah sry i mean , is that right now?
Code: Select all
rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
Sure, I guess.
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
wow, we got a first success!
with this method i could double my FPS to 60 in full screen!
i still wonder why i cant reach 245 fps like i have under OS X but for now im satisfied. i think this is playable. at least i will test this for the next time!
applause to blast, cobra_fast and all the other who contrubuted to this first success! thanks!
maybe i come back to all you guys when it comes to bringing my fps to 240

Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
60 is really as good as it needs to be...

Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
well 60 is the highest value, for the most time it is at an average of 45, but i don't wanna be nitpicky here, i guess you are right, it'sufficient!
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
The open-source linux driver probably just isn't (yet) as good as the closed-source OSX driver.

life is too short , spread love around you.
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
received two new tips (these guys are obviously too shy to post in here):
first tip (thanks rex!): i ought to use this small guide:http://blog.nixternal.com/2007.12.30/in ... ideo-hint/
result: glxgears (about 700FPS after the vblank method) and bzflag (60 on HIX, 40 on football-stadium) show no increase in fps
second tip (thanks gorgomol): i ought to add the following to my (newly created) xorg.conf-file:
result: a deformed screen, with weird colors and shades and an even lower fps of 45 on HIX
my question now: do these tips ring a bell at anyone? do they maybe include useful code to think of an alternative way of try and error?
if not i will call this journey quits, but dont see this as menace!

Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
We've probably reached the limit of what we can provide for help here. You might try asking on the Ubuntu Forums and reference this thread so they know what you've tried.
Re: ubuntu intel 945GM low framerate
yep! we might want to close this thread then.
again THANKS TO EVERYONE, SEE YOU INGAME SOON!
appreciation, levi
