First time ever: After upgrading PC bzflag won't work, UDP

Post by Rewt »

For the first time ever after I upgraded my pc (new mobo, cpu, and vpu) I am getting errors from bzflag and it won't let me play.

All servers force me to disconnect saying my end doesn't support UDP and to upgrade or enable it. Well, I have installed the latest version of bzflag.

With enabling UDP, I found this topic:
http://my.bzflag.org/bb//viewtopic.php?f=12&t=14104

My router does not and never has had UDP disabled.

My firewall which is ESET Smart Security doesn't have it disabled and I even created a specific rule to allow all TCP and UDP connections for bzflag.exe.

Any idea what I can do to get it working?

Try turning your firewall off completely and see if it works. It's possible that the firewall has flagged BZFlag as a web browser since we initially make communication to a web server (for the MOTD and for the server list). If it works with the firewall turned off, you will need to investigate further as to why it is blocking UDP.

Just turned off the firewall and bzflag still kicked me off saying UDP wasn't working...

something is blocking the UDP, we always try to send it out so it has to be something on your OS or your network.

Any ideas on what I can do on my end to troubleshoot this?

If I were to send an email to ESET, what would I say (so they know exactly what problem I am having and so it gets forwarded to the right person on their end).

It's not the network, as this was working on this same PC just the other day and on another pc (laptop) running linux the past few weeks on this wireless network.

OKAY Get this.

The old stable version, v 2.0.10 WORKS NO PROBLEM AT ALL. But the new version no matter what I do with tweaking port forwarding on my router or disabling my firewall, etc, will not work.

Any idea what the problem is? Will all current BZFlag servers let me play using this older version?

AND... Is there any way to stop the annoying start up notifcation of a new version since obviously the new version doesn't want to work on my computer? Like, is there a value/setting in a configuration file or something that indicates to check for updates that I could shut off?

Sounds like some software program on your computer is still blocking 2.0.14's UDP access.

If you want to get rid of the upgrade notice, just add the -nomotd to your BZFlag shortcut.
