Fairserve and BZWebAdmin

Post by macsforme »

Hi folks,

Some of you remember I used to host maps on my server (which I call "Fairserve") at bzflag.fairserve.net. I had some security issues pop up with the SSH accounts I gave people on the old server in florida, resulting in a security hole that I wasn't really happy with. For that reason, I began working on a web administration interface so that I would be able to continue providing hosting (and managing my own servers) while maintaining a higher level of security.

This web-based administration system is called BZWebAdmin (or bzwa), and has a sourceforge project page at http://sourceforge.net/projects/bzwa/ (note that the code in sourceforge SVN is currently far out-of-sync with the actual code). It has been a while in the making, and still has a ways to go; but it has reached the point of basic functionality. I am looking for a group of server owners/map makers (ideally people who used to host with me, and new people who have experience in web site design and security) who can help me test this system for functionality and security.

This system is designed to accommodate multiple server organizations/administrators/admin groups. It is designed to allow server configuration, manipulation, operations, and log viewing all from the web interface. Some features are still incomplete, and others need fine-tuning.

I am looking for a group of testers who will be willing to test the web administration system for me and provide suggestions for improvement. To host on this system, you will need to be added to the FAIRSERVE.CONTRIB bzbb user group. Once in that group, you will be able to access hosting features on the admin site.

To become a tester, please register at the Fairserve forum and post at http://fairserve.bzflag.net/forum/index ... 101.0.html saying you would like to be a tester. I would like all discussion to take place there so as not to clutter up the BZBB. Alternatively, you may PM me here or post in this thread. If approved, you will be able to access the web admin site and host servers.

The admin site is at http://fairserve.bzflag.net . Feel free to look around, although you won't be able to see much until you are added to the hoster group.
