You would use a material that specified a texture, and then apply that material to your object.

If you wish to apply a texture that does not exist in the normal BZFlag textures, then you will have to host it on our image server. Only images that are released under specific licenses are allowed to be hosted there, so you can't just find an image on google and use that. Review the Terms of Service and the Permission page.
