Re: Radar type help
I would say enhanced, always enhanced. It allows you to see the different levels of the map, it gives 3D information instead of other radar options that are 2D only.

quantum dot has been misinformed. Only "Normal" is "2D only".

Re: Radar type help
Even if other options are 3D-like, enhanced mod appears to me as clearly the best option for 3D information. At least it is the radar mod I find most transparent regarding the information presented.trepan wrote:quantum dot has been misinformed. Only "Normal" is "2D only".

Re: Radar type help
I prefer the "enhanced" mode. Test out which one works best for you.

It also depends on the map, certain maps play better in different modes...

Considering it was posted in the GU League Discussion forum, we can be reasonably sure that he's talking about the HiX map.joevano wrote:It also depends on the map, certain maps play better in different modes...
I'd say that using Enhanced is best too, since you can see a lot more than with the Normal setting. Especially things like the Octagon area with the mini-pyra's are displayed much more detailed on radar, which can be essential when trying to avoid ricochets or other shots there.

Re: Radar type help
Between enhanced and normal there is no competition, enhanced beats it hands down.
I'm wondering which people prefer out of the "3d" radars- enhanced or fast/fast sorted.

Re: Radar type help
Note the colors in the fast-sorted version:
red - below you
grey - your level
green - above you, within jumping height
blue - above you, above jumping height
The other features to note about the fast versions are that:
1. They can be considerably faster (especially on more advanced maps)
2. There's a 256x1 radar.png texture in the data/ directory that is used to map
heights to colors (including the translucency level). You can edit it in any decent
image program (GIMP, Photoshop, etc...)
Fast/Sorted
Enhanced
P.S. Screenshots taken on Louman's Metropolis map.

Re: Radar type help
People who play on GU are not the only ones to read this, and we don't want to make any assumptions. The question was "What are the differences.." and I was stating a difference. We don't want players who do not play in the holy GU league to get the wrong idea about the differencesdexter wrote:Considering it was posted in the GU League Discussion forum, we can be reasonably sure that he's talking about the HiX map.

Re: Radar type help
I tested them out and like the normal radar the best for gu actually. I know the the map inside out, because its symmetricall, and with all the colors with a big radar, sometimes it can give you a headache.
P.S. how do you take a screenshot. I found i took a picture of one a long time ago and didn't know how i did it.

Try F5. The client automatically saves it in "My BZFlag Files" (on windows) It is placed in screenshots folder...gentle giant wrote:P.S. how do you take a screenshot. I found i took a picture of one a long time ago and didn't know how i did it.

Re: Radar type help
For me it has always been the enhanced option, mainly because its far superior over the normal view and because nothing else was available when I started playing. At some point the devs added the sorted style and I can see the sense in that, I even know a few people playing with sorted, but I still prefer enhanced in my own config.
When talking about the radar, we should also mention the zoom levels as I find them by far more important than the radar style. I use four different zoom levels, mapped to the keys 1,2,3,4:
key 1: close combat
key 2: default setting, I use this 90% of the time as its a good compromise between detail and overview
key 3: detail view, for passing flags or precise jumps and dodges
key 4: overview, self explanatory
