New Game Mode: Kill the King
New Game Mode: Kill the King
This game mode makes having a higher score more challenging to keep, and killing a higher scored enemy tank more rewarding, as well as encourage tanks on a team to defend one another (i.e. more teamplay). Each team has one King. A King is selected by having the highest score in their team, similar to the rabbit chase mode. Killing a King has the same affect as shooting that player with genocide, where everyone on that Kings team dies, and the player (if on a different team from that king) who shot the King will have a score increase equal to the number players on that team. If however a King is shot by a teammate or shot itself the affect would again be like shooting the King with genocide but with the team kill aspect. Kings will be on auto hunt like rabbits, and will be distinguished out window perhaps with a crown or the letter K hovering over its turret. Perhaps to make things even more interesting there could be an optional 2nd and 3rd rank (e.x. "Queen" and "Jack" respectively) where if killed only players on that team who have a less score than the "Queen"/"Jack" also get killed.

Ah, I quite like this actually. I've played a similar game out paintballing. We called it 'protect the president'.
It's almost like a team rabbit hunt. It sounds completely possible with a plugin, and could be a very fun game. I think the best plan would be to keep it as simple as possible, no 'queen' or 'jack'.

Idk sparky it's a good idea and ive played other online games with modes like this, but how about every time the king is killed a new one is randomly selected, and maybe instead of all the team members on that team dying, the team that killed the king all get 1 point and the team gets one point? Also the server sets a number of points each team needs to get before they win, then once that limit is reached the game ends and everyone rejoins to do it again, kind of like sparky's idea with a few differences...
Try to look unimportant, they may be low on ammo
Teamwork is essential,it gives them other people to shoot at.

I personally think that The high score approach is better since it focuses attention on the players with the high scores so things get balanced out. but there could be an option for either way like with rabbit hunt.Tank 52 wrote:...but how about every time the king is killed a new one is randomly selected...
As an alternative, instead of a geno effect, shooting a team's King would be like capturing that team's flag in Capture the flag (i.e your team's score goes up by one and the tanks on the team with the killed King die without individual scores being affected)? Or perhaps some middle ground? Maybe even an option for one or the other?Tank52 wrote:...maybe instead of all the team members on that team dying, the team that killed the king all get 1 point and the team gets one point?...
I like that idea. Aren't there already provisions for setting game length based on the scores though?Tank 52 wrote:...Also the server sets a number of points each team needs to get before they win, then once that limit is reached the game ends and everyone rejoins to do it again...
One thing that I've learned is that (new) people do not respond to new game concepts that well. Especially if they can be confusing. I've had people on my KOTH server asking what the purpose of the map was quite frequently, even after I put it in the server message and the help file. And it really isn't that hard of a concept to grasp!
Other than the fact that a few people won't know what to do (a good few), there are also some inherent problems that might present themselves on the public server. First of all, this gameplay mode encourages hunting down just one player. And the rating system for choosing said king (highest scorer) is highly prejudiced. If the king on your team managed to rack up 101 points, then everyone else would get bored and leave waiting for their turn to be king. Also, what would happen if the king chosen happened to...well...suck at the game? Your whole team suffers.
Seems like a neat idea, and might make a good plugin, but I'd have to test it out on a public server to know whether this is a good idea.
