Yes, if your graphics aren't hardware accelerated, you can get _really_ laggy. I'm on a 5Mb/s connection, but when I use my old old computer to play BZFLag (10 FPS, 320x240, every option turned down as low as you can go) my lag is often in excess of 500ms. To improve performance with BZFlag: First g...

No. There is a finite number of each flag on any particular BZFlag server. Flags are never created or destroyed, just moved. You've just discovered a good way to get the flag you want ;) If the flags are mixed around fairly randomly and there are enough flags on the map, it should be fairly hard to ...

Wow, now the difference between a 1.x and a 2.x map is being muddled. What were the issues with 2.x maps? I killed quite a few genos and to-be genos on the map version before the current one (I call it 2.1.0) It was easy then, but these days trying to GM someone has been way harder. I must ask, what in this version makes GM harder? I'm guessing that it's because the 4 walls in the center are a lot bigg...

For the Express Edition, go here:

On Step 3, you might have to follow the alternate steps. I had to with Beta 2, but I don't remember if I did on the full version.

Geno is going to be harder to get on Boxy War, but that really just sidesteps the problem. I'm afraid that I can't change people's playing styles, but is there anything we can do on BoxyWar to help with the 'problem' you have? CBG, the BZFX server has a 100Mbit connection and has very low lag, so th...

This is a great idea. I like it that it dosen't require you to vote, but makes it extra easy. Often on large servers the poll scrolls up so that you can't finish it in time. Also, many players DO want to vote, but don't know what to do. Also, /vote is a rather long thing to type when you are in the ...

One day, I was walking down the aisles of a pet store when I saw a frog. I thought 'Wouldn't that be a great BoxyWar pet?'. So, I bought him and dropped him on the map. We had a vote, and he was named Mr. Nibbles. A week later I noticed there was a second frog! I asked whre this one came from; the a...

I use Kubuntu and BZFlag 2.0.9 and HEAD from CVS. I can't help you with your first problem, but I can with your second. BZFlag (or should I say SDL) supports many different sound output methods. The two we are concerned with are the DSP (/dev/dsp) and ALSA. The DSP is an exclusive resource - only on...

Moving objects aren't terribly complex if they are implemented in a simple way... the tanks are a good example :P I don't think Tim Riker has anything against it (don't quote me on that) though it would be a lot of work for the developers. There is actually code in 2.0.6+ to make objects rotate arou...

Client Side Logging $ bzadmin -ui stdout > log.txt Though I think it would be a good idea for the client to log automatically, it wouldn't help anything because you can change a text file as easy as opening Notepad ;) Publicly available server logs are the best option. As for multiple configs, I wo...

BoxyWar on BZFX is not a good example because the TK ratio is not set up properly. I think what we need is the first time BZFlag is set up, it should provide a special menu: First, set your graphical settings (BZFlag often defaults to the lowest settings), then read a highly condensed version of the...

I hate to suggest this... but, retype your password. Competely erase it and retype it. Sometimes the stored password gets accidentally corrupted. It sounds dumb, but it's solved the problem for a lot of people :P If your login was rejected for being a bad token, I believe your client was successful ...
