Re: Global is going on and off

I think this is due to DNS problems with the bzflag.org domain. Tim changed the set of nameservers again yesterday, and at the moment everything seems to be working.

The easiest and most reliable way to answer this type of question is to connect to the server and send a /owner command.

Re: How Do you Get the "Plugin"?? What is the "Plugin"?

Pease see the Creating a server wiki page for more information. You don't have to register there if you don't want to. Unless you already understand what it means that the server must "be able to accept incoming connections on a fixed port" (as it says in the overview on that wiki page) yo...

Re: Hepcat CTF Pillbox is back

There are not nearly as many active BZFlag players as there were a couple of years ago. This Pillbox server is currently at bzflag.hepcat.org:5154, but people rarely go there. Someone has to be the first player on a map; it might as well be you. At the right times of the day other players are likely...

what you're saying is that depending on what admin is around, the rules of the league are superfluous? No, kitten. This kind of deliberate misinterpretation shows that your true intention is to merely stir up trouble. The people who run the GU league (by providing servers, the web site, etc.) have ...

a lot of people are starting to get a little put off by the over-policing and not nearly as much by the violations of the rules. Personally, I haven't noticed any increase in language frequency. I'm sure others would say the same. The only people put off by the recent increase in language rule enfo...

in my opinion, you should warn them every single time even if they are known for cursing cause sometimes the bans are kinda stupid about the word they said. sometimes its not clear it was wrong. and the player that curses tons gets banned and was not thinking anything of it. I am not convinced that...

Re: An Appeal to Server Admins -- and the Players

I'll go so far as to say we are one of, if not THE best administered servers on the game list. I'll second that. You'll see four-letter words at Planet MoFo, but that is the only reason to keep the kids away from it. They put the "sorta" in BZFlag's "good clean fun" motto, in th...

Re: Digital signing for OS X Mountain Lion

Apple says, "you can even temporarily override your setting by Control-clicking, and install any app at any time." So all we really have to do is be prepared to teach BZFlag players to install using control-click. It is easy enough to get an Apple developer account if we do choose to sign ...

Re: fairCTF

Thanks, L4m3r, for your generous contribution to the project. If there is interest and it makes sense to do so we can integrate the features of fairCTFstrong and/or Fair4CTF into this version so server operators won't have to compile them separately. We just need to ensure that server operators can ...

Re: Compiling 2.4.0 on Debian 6 Squeeze 64-bit amd64

There is no bzflag-2.4.0 packge for Debian yet.

If the "make install" command succeeded, then you should be able to run /usr/local/bin/bzflag on the command line. Even if it didn't install, in your ~/bzflag-2.4.0 directory it should work when you run src/bzflag/bzflag .

Nicely done. A column that shows the round-trip distance in light-milliseconds would give a best-case lag value, and might even be useful as a teaching tool.

Re: No Server list with 2.4 on linux

Tupone has fixed some gentoo problems in the development trunk. To take advantage of his changes, install the Subversion client, download development version 2.4.1 with this command: svn co https://bzflag.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/bzflag/trunk/bzflag and then compile as usual starting with the aut...

Re: List Server Public Use Violation -- sigonasr2.servegames

I fail to see the beginning of a trend, here. I strongly suspect that any server that automatically bans players for such ordinary things as chatting more than once in a ten minute period will quickly lose any popularity it may have had. I also suspect that most server operators would rather have mo...

The rules at sigonasr2's server affect only the players who voluntarily connect to its maps. I strongly encourage anyone who doesn't like those rules to choose from any of the hundreds of other maps identified by the list server. If you do choose to put yourself into a situation that you know will m...

This has been fixed in Subversion revision 22123. The change will be generally available in BZFlag release 2.4.2 (if that ever happens).

Thanks for reporting the bug.
