What I never understood about world weapons is the types that are available. Is it simply any flag that exists? If so, doesn't that mean you could make an "agility" weapon or "wings" weapon? If not, what are the types?

I think Battle Hardened's first two ideas were good. Just a tiny bit of extra momentum for wings would make its motion a lot more predictable, giving the advantage to normal tanks that can change speed faster. I especially like the idea of making extra jumps apply an acceleration upward rather than ...

May I be the first to officially say, WOOHOO!!!!

This is the first actual version change since I started playing, excluding the miniscule bump from 1.10.6 to 1.10.8.

Camping is to some degree a natural part of the game, but it can be excessively overused. The best way to get rid of them is to kill them after you respawn, either by specifically looking for a counter flag (stealth for GM, cloak for L, etc), or by ganging up on them with your teammates. Or you coul...

When loading trepan's emissivity test map, I get an "abnormal program termination" message box. I'm running windows 98SE, and will try to reproduce the error on another machine when I get the chance.

[edit] It occurs on XP as well.

Sounds cool but it is a lot like machine gun. I would modify it so that it's more like a real flamethrower (or at least what the gamers of the world generally consider a flamethrower to be). Like, it could be one constant stream of fire that is slow to adjust to turning and has a minor delay after h...

Look, don't go all insane with the pictures and font size; go for simplicity first, then elegance. Start with a simple background and a font color that's easy to read, and keep the font size smaller even if you don't have a lot of text on that particular page. If you want a repeating background pict...

What about when one team has three or four good flags, and their holders have good camping positions on the other team's base? Then it's not a matter of whether or not the opposition wants it badly enough, it's a matter of whether or not those who have the power flags screw up. I think it depends on...

Today was the end of vacation so I finally got access to the machine again. I updated the CVS and compiled everything fine, but when I ran it - this time with the data directory in the correct location - I got a black screen with a mouse cursor. I could still navigate blindly through the menu and F1...

I just tried "netstat -a" and got this: TCP <Mycomputername>:<port> bzflag.secretplace.us:80 TIME_WAIT. Why would this be there when I'm not playing the game? Is this what your dad's friend was referring to? I would just tell him that with a proper firewall, virus protection, and a browser...

Memnarch, scorch is referring to using bots on a server to increase its status on the list server. I don't like to play on a server with any bots, especially those with a swarm of them. However, they are permissible if the server own wants them, and the fact that it makes his server appear on top of...

Hey can the textures have an alpha transparency channel? That would be awesome.

.. I wonder if that would allow you to see through buildings - which I'm sure would be cheating, but if the game allows it it's better to find out sooner than later. Anyone know?

It took me a little bit to get it to work, because for some reason I had my data directory configured to something weird. Once I had it up though, the first game I played I had two winning streaks of 8+ kills, which is sort of a personal best. I think it's more luck than anything else though. I'm no...

That defeats the purpose of burrow, especially since they can't effectively evade attacks. Burrowed tanks are weak enough as it is, without additional counters.

P.S. Now that groups have been included into the default bzflag world file format, I will be doing no further work on bzmapper. That's a shame, it was a pretty cool tool. I'm not experienced with BZEdit, but I really don't see why it matters if the colors of the teams aren't what you expected them to be, unless you specifically designed the map to make use of them (writing "Blue" in box text or something). If it's that bad and there's no fix, simply go into...

That didn't quite do it. I don't understand how bzflag knows where to look for the data directory - there aren't any configuration files that I can see. I really hope I don't have to execute the install scripts again every time I want to change the relative path.
