I'm happy to report that the downtiem only lasted for some hours. However, it can happen again anytime until we replace the file server :-(

You can use either lsof (which lists all open file handles per application which includes sockets) or netstat (which lists all sockets). For the latter, the -a and -p options could be of interest.

ducati servers down

All ducati servers are down due to another file server crash. I cannot say when they will be back. So far the file server machine resisted all attempts of resurrection.

There seems to be some controversy about the suicide issue. It never really occured to me to use that tactic until I saw the opponent team use it in a match (hello HoW :D ). In my opinion it's ok to use it, it's a bit strange, but it cannot be ruled out anyway as it's hard to distinguish an accident...

1.7g1 got some bug fixes and new features, most of it is small stuff. New features include ability to edit text fields and more GUI options (radar size, mouse sensitivity). The latter might help you to dodge shost better when you prefer a big radar, but then peopel runnin ghigher resolutons always h...

This sounds somewhat similar to the karma system that we want to implement. The main difference seems to be that your way most data would be collected automatically and is also multi-dimensional (not only karma/honor, but also skill). For the karma system the idea was to allow players to rate other ...

/lagstats shows something like:

Code: Select all

Chestal : 150ms (327) 10 lost
Which means that the current exponentially smoothed lag average is at 150ms round-trip time, that there have been 327 lag pings since the player joined of which 10 haven't been answered by the player.

This may sound obvious, but I'll still ask: Did you compare it after having played for the same amount of time? It's best to compare the number of lost packets in /lagstats to the number of measurements. So say, you had 50 lost packets with g1 for 500 measurements, that would be 10%.

Without further proof I'd just say it is coincidence at is not related to the bzflag version at all. What makes Iron Foot think so anyway? The number of lost packets displayed in /lagstats? This is the number of lag ping packets for which the server did not receive a reply from this particular playe...

In general I agree with what you wrote. When it's 2vs3, however, capturing is almost always unfair - unless the 2 players are very good. When teams have the same number of players, but skill levels are extremely different, it gets frustrating for the weaker team fast. I'd suggest to try to even out ...

The Big League Cleanup

The long awaited cleanup which will eliminate dead player logins and teams will finally take place. You can take a look at http://www.bzflag.org/league/cleanup.php for a preliminary list of teams and players which will get removed. I used a simple rule to find dead teams: Any team is dead, when none...

The ability to record (and playback) a game would be nice. When thinking of league matches, we could even put past matches up on the site. Would be perfect if it would also be possible to pause, rewind, fast forward etc.

I don't think there have ever been other robots in bzflag (cannot say for sure, but it would really surprise me). The need for smarter robots is there - no doubt about it. This problem has been discussed before elsewhere. Consensus is that robots should be modules that are not part of the bzflag exe...

What exactly doyou want to log? Client or Server? If server, then add as many -d switches as you like (you probably do not want to use more than 1 or 2).

Which is just warnings, but still Me no likey.. Me, neither. The problem is the difference between pre-3.0 g++ and current g++. As bzflag doesn't use something like autoconf, we'd have to create new make targets, maybe linux-newgcc or something. We'll probably think of something after the 1.7g2 rel...

No. If it is goign to be integrated into the current league site, there are two things which must be done first: a) Valoche must finish his rewrite, b) people who'd liek to play FFA should think of details how to do it...

No, 1.7g2 will most probably be the last backwards compatible version, after that more changes are possible, however old and new clients and servers won't be able to interact. If new flags will make it into the first incomp. release is unknown.

Are these two servers running up-to-date CVS code? After the checks have been introduced they have been relaxed several times. I'm regularly checkign ducati log files to see whether there are kicks for speeding. During the last 2 or 3 weeks there might have been one wrong kick as far as I can tell (...

the G0 client sent a lot of extra data. CVS and G2 should lower the number of updates that are sent but still be playable, this should help out the modem users. [ beside that i would suggest unattached cofigurable mouse and message areas so that different heights/sizes for both areas become possible. bezee I don't quite get this. Substitutions

It has been the policy, to allow teams to change players during a match. This allows teams which show up with more than 3 (or 2) players to give everyone a chance to play or replace a player which has some unexpected problems. There has always been some discussion whether subbing is fair or not, how...
