While both of the ideas you suggested in the first post would probably be impossible to implement, I agree that it would be nice to have some more ways to encourage teamwork on public maps (best way is by plugins- not whole new flags). However, if you really want to find teamwork, join a league.

I think you're forgetting that this is an open-source game. There is no "corporation" whatsoever, just developers working on it for free on their own time. Theoretically a server owner could sell advertisements if they want to (although I seriously doubt any serious buyer would bother adve...

What about guided missiles? I'm quite against this idea, as it would just be an overcomplicated novelty (no offense), but couldn't theoretically the same principle be applied to a "mortar"?

Yay fellow musicians! I play a lot of instruments, mostly oboe, violin, saxophone, french horn... as well as a bunch of Irish trad stuff. I've always wanted to do drums too, but right now I only have the sticks.

Well littlelep if they're regular bullets you can easily dodge them.
Bippwatt I think that is also possible too. I remember a Hix dodge trainer that had ww's shoot at you only when you were in a specific zone. I suppose the plugin could be changed so that you can make it only shoot at a certain team.

The autopilot is good enough. It can do basic things like grab flags, jump sometimes. It doesn't need to be better; if you're going to make your client control your tank why play the game? Plus making a learning AI is incredibly complicated and probably beyond the scope of this open source project r...

There's not really any way to identify "newb" players, some veteran players could have bad scores and vice versa. Also, like joe said, automatically identifying them ingame wouldn't help much. If they really think people would go easy on them, they could always just put "newb" or...

press your defined identify key when looking at the person. It usually locks on to the closest person that's in front of you.

There's a whole forum (and this is a thread btw) for gu league discussion.
It can be pretty hard to explain the more complicated gu tactics on the forums, the best way to learn them is to play games, or watch veterans matching.

Sorry, this is just one of those things, like moving turrets on the tanks or making the tank not parallel to the ground (i.e drive up a hill) that is just not going to happen because it would complicate the game and make it less like bzflag and more like any other random shooting game you can buy.

Well, there are already world weapons that can probably be set up to "defend" a base, but they can't be controlled by tanks. There is also a plugin that allows players in a certain area to control a world weapon, like a turret (see the turret-based maps by Robbe or flying_popcorn to see wh...

Well, if he was tking, that's bad, tactic or not. It wouldn't really confuse the other team much, as they have an arrow on their HUD pointing to it at all times. This would be great, it might actually make the hunters use (*gasp*) teamwork to kill the rabbit. Possible with a plugin? I don't think that server variables can be changed for single players though..

It just seems like non-necessary information (plus inaccurate for people who still use 2.0.8 etc.), and besides, I think one would want to use a wallpaper to show affiliation to the game in general, not a specific version number. in 3.0 it is done by the server, we simply had the server see if there is anything in between you and the flag before it gives it to you. Might there be a way to disable this feature on certain servers? Picking up flags/shooting "through" walls is a tactic used fairly often in the GU leau...

I have not played on Two Tanks in a while, but I do remember her as a great person and an amazing player. She will be missed here in the Bzflag community, and my sympathies go out to her family.
I do think that some sort of memorial or billboard on the Two Tanks map is a good idea.
