I really like this idea. Like a team flag that fights back ;) The server would need careful config though. For example laser would be rather effective (unless the map has lots of vertical space). And it could lead to too much clustering around the VIP, meaning too many TKs, and too easy just to fire...

I tired to implement mines once. they have a couple problems. The game is so slow paced that, if you make the mine visiable, then people just don't hit them, and they are not efective. Wouldn't that just mean they were too small? if you make the min invisible, then people just seem to blow up rando...

I find being inside buildings far too dark now too. And it's perfectly bright outside. It's definitely possible for both graphics card transparency support, and monitor specifications to make this a problem for some. But that doesn't leave those people much choice :| Does anyone run play with lighti...

Landmines. It's such an obvious thing if you think of real tanks. It would probably set off a shockwave. There's all sorts of server config variables that could control it like how long they persist (possibly forever, possibly not, possibly till player drops the LM flag), how many simultaneously, wh...

Wings is good fun if you have it, but it is pretty hard to beat on many servers right now. Definitely one of the most powerful flags. I think a lot of the problems with it are just teething ones - server owners putting out lots of WG flags because it's the latest cool thing. Or using it on an inappr...

I think shot limits make sense on a map where it's easy to camp (and there's a few which are explicitly designed for it). It just depends on the map. That said, some shot limits are ridiculously low. I pretty much don't bother with things like ST flags with a 5 shot limit. Ultimately a camper will r...

Used to work, now doesn't
Hi, I had global logins working ok. Then I temporarily changed my callsign. When I changed it back, global logins no longer worked. I've typed and retyped my callsign and password without any change. Although in fact the error I get is: Global login rejected, bad token. as opposed to: ERROR: did not...

I do sometimes get annoyed by repeated friendly fire from some people, where it isn't deliberate as such. But it is careless. Some ricos and ST's are fair enough. But I try to take care not to TK others, and some others do not take the same care. There isn't an imperative to shoot the rabbit if you ...

I was just thinking about this again and thought I'd try something. Here's what I get when I connect to the appropriate TCP port on a working server: garibaldi:~$ telnet bzflag.sleepycows.us 5156 Trying 64.81.67.34... Connected to bzflag.sleepycows.us. Escape character is '^]'. BZFS1910 And it will ...

sid6.7, the idea of validating the remote client will not work. A remote cheat client could have a real one sitting beside it that uses to generate the checksum value. It's even easier due to the fact that it is an open-source game. Reread that part if you must, open-source. I think this is somethi...

Hey ducati! Can't help but FYI I get this too with bzflag.secretplace.us, although I don't with bryjen.bzflag.org. Other people have no problem at all with secretplace of course. I did notice though that I also can't get into dragon.org:5255, and I used to be able to, but I think that may have been ...
