On my older desktop machine, I often have to play at 25-30 and can usually do just fine... just used to it I guess. With all the frills maxed out, I run right at 59 on my nVidia Quadro NVS 135M with 256MB of RAM. I play full screen at 1280x800x32. Note... there is no point in making your GPU work ha...

Hmm, that's weird. I have the forward thumb button as message the team, and the rear thumb button as jump. Although I do have a completely different mouse (Kensington PilotMouse Optical Pro) from Sky King. I find those two buttons to be quite handy. Did you use Kensington software to map the forwar...

Can't configure mouse buttons
I posted something similar about a year and a half ago, but am still confounded by this problem. I have a Microsoft Explorer mouse that has the thumb switch on the side that by default lets you go forward and back in your browser. I would love to assign these buttons in BZ but they don't do anything...

I have no answer, but, I am a bit puzzled by the jerky video when running single-core. Was this a result of network jitter, or was your frame rate tumbling? I would think based on your iron that you should see CPU utilization under 20-30 percent even if single-cored. If you are set to single-core, a...

it is a cache thing. but the cache is NOT on your system. The Cache is on that proxy server at your ISP. We flag our HTTP connection as being no cache, so your ISP should not be caching it, but obviously they are. This is not what they are supposed to do. Sadly unless you can get a non cached conne...

I want to make sure too that we're not mixing apples and oranges here... I have noticed on several servers over the past week where I see everyone as [nr]... and when I leave and rejoin the server, it turns out that 2/3 of all the players got booted. My point being that the [nr] issue may not be on ...

I am by no means a ban-happy admin, but... I think there are two kinds of players that come to BZ. The first are the ones that just want to have fun. After a hard day at work or school it's great to unwind with a spirited game of BZ, with competition, camaraderie, a challenge... Then there's the ant...

i think it would be cool if you had to have a certain number of kills to get better flags, that way, no one can actually capture the flag 'store'. This concept is referred to as progressive flags. It has been tried. MoFo, for instance, had a progressive concept server running for a while. Again, th...

As for the idea of having a central flag point that has to be controlled... This creates a serious playability problem. In general, a map should have a certain degree of parity. Some maps have a high degree of parity. That is, it is hard for one team to take, and then hold, the advantage for a long ...

This thread is a bit dated, but... Here's a general rule of thumb that I have used when fairCTF is not running: If the SMALLER team has: the larger team must be within: ======================== =============================== 1,2,3,4 equal 5,6 1 7,8,9 2 10+ any I have found that some servers need di...

I don't think anyone is suggesting hacking into the client or server; I think it was being suggested as a potential enhancement to be incorporated into a future release of BZ. And I agree, btw... The chat window on a busier server is simply a flood of information that often comes too fast to be usef...

Yes, first and foremost, you have to make sure you aren't doing ANYTHING else on the network. That means you have to make sure your computer isn't doing obvious things (like running torrent), but also that it isn't doing less obvious things. For instance, if you have a mail program running, you may ...

If they don't want to take the little bit of time to learn how to play, then I don't think we really want them around playing. I don't see how that logic follows. Anything we do to alleviate teething problems will help. Joe, I agree wholeheartedly, and here's why: If you were a military recruiter, ...

I do agree with the general premise... no matter what the number of servers, or registration head-counts might imply... I think just about all of us who are on the servers a lot will agree, that since roughly December, things have slowed way down. It didn't feel to me like just the end of summer and...

I had a couple of 25-0 starts on lasermania last fall. I think my best start ever on any map was 3-4 months ago, I had a 100-3 start on Two Tanks even with a pretty good sized crowd on that day. I think I got up to the mid 50s on my first tank, and was TKed. In the end, 2 of the 3 deaths, I was TKed.

No attack intended at all... but still, I think you are missing the bigger picture here. There is very little a host can do, there just isn't a lot of tweaking to be done. From my house, it takes 11 hops and 74 ms average round trip to ping bzfx.net. It is taking me about 50 ms to get from my PC int...
