VHOST IS DOWN

Our hosting provider is having issues with their VHOST service. The site is doing just fine and they are as much aware of the problem as we are. In the meantime, you can use the non-vhost domain name to get to the site: http://bzflag.sourceforge.net

Cheers!

Re: Can I disable chat for safe use by kids?

Are there any switches on the client to disable chat mode? I'd rather they weren't chatting to people I don't know. I'm running BZFlag on Linux and Windows. Are there other aspects I should worry about (apart from the ethics of war games)? Thanks. Scratched my mind for a few minutes on how you migh...

The developers pretty much live in the IRC channel, #bzflag on the Freenode network -- there are instructions elsewhere on the forums and elsewhere on the net for how to connect to IRC (http://irchelp.org might be a place to start). We have a pretty good idea of what 2.2 will be like, but it is a fl...

More than likely, it's not really 1 or 2. It usually can't find the fonts or other data resources because there is a "directory" directive in your bzflag config file. You more than likely had a config file that pointed to the 2.0.6 data directory but since you've now uninstalled it, it no ...

The 2.1 development line began shortly after 2.0.0 was released. All of the 2.1 versions are solely developer versions and are not released. When we start stabilizing and get ready to do another major (backwards incompatible) update, the 2.1 line becomes 2.2.0 whenever we finally release. That is no...

Mac binary posted

The Mac OS X download for 2.0.8 is now available for download as well. This compilation should work on 10.2+, although still PPC-only due to network communication problems through Rosetta. This compile includes improved curl support, but if you get a communication error when joining a server, you wi...

strayer, that's pretty nifty. I'm curious how you actually go about processing the files to extract the command list and associated descriptions. Are you pulling that from the doxygen comments? Either way.. nifty. ;)

additional memory installed

Interesting stats there strayer.. sounds about right with all the scheduled and unscheduled outages. The DDoS attack alone was about 4 hours; everyone that could respond to the attack was asleep when it started. On a mildly related note, the server went through one additional reboot today so that ad...

Primary list server migration complete

For those following the primary list server migration, I'm glad to report that we should now be fully migrated and operational again. As many noticed, there were some intermittent downtime issues over the past two weeks as we moved the primary BZFlag list server (which includes this bulletin board w...

resolv.conf

BZFlag uses libcurl to communicate with the list server, clients and servers also use it to interact. If you compiled bzflag yourself, then you probably already figured out how to get and install libcurl. If you didn't compile it yourself, which sounds like the case -- the problem sounds related to ...

CGI:IRC and some browsers

If you have trouble getting in to the "Chat Room" or if things don't quite seem to be working correctly, your best bet is to try a different browser. Some browsers will specifically not work with the CGI:IRC interface that the web-based chat interface uses (e.g. certain versions of Netscap...

Hmm. They seem to work fine here in 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4. Not sure what might be causing them to not download correctly for you. Any luck if you delete your ~/Library/Applciation Support/BZFlag directory?

plugin support

Mac OS X 10.2 doesn't support the dynamic plugin mechanism that the server uses to load plugins. So this required disabling plugin support in order to simply build the server for the Mac release. When 10.2 support is dropped or if we start making version-specific releases (which are a pain), then th...

It's on the chopping board, but not for certain yet. Maintaining the 10.2 build is a pain due to the variety of issues like broken headers, old libraries, an old compiler, and old build system tools. The newer versions of Mac OS X also have better drivers as well as a slew of other improvements acro...

A new build style was just checked in for the sake of the plugins that should hopefully take care of the "Symbol 'something' not found" load errors. It should be available in a couple hours from the date of this posting. There is now no longer a "lib" prefix on the plugins, and a...

Hehe, sure it can. It's just incredibly insanely expensive and complicated to the point of utter impracticality to guarantee 100%. But.. it is possible.

It's also not fun. Fly by the seat coding is much more rewarding.. ;-)

It's not a problem. It's not even a difference. It's simply an autogen.sh warning about one of them being missing, which was unexpected and 'could' cause problems in other situations if one weren't using autogen.sh.
