I removed the firewall blocking rules that were preventing you from reaching the server.
Cheers,

Firewall block removed
You were probably caught by a firewall block rule. Does it work better now?

localhost vs 127.0.0.1
Try using 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost.
I vaguely remember some systems have problems resolving 'localhost' but it works with the IP.

Banlist handling functions
It would be really helpful to have a way to reload the banlist and masterban lists (separately) from a plugin.
This would allow a plugin to reload a shared banlist efficiently instead of having to resort to using a bzadmin process or bzfscron to periodically do banlist reloads.

Debug output
It's just extra text output from the server. When you run the server it reports things on standard output. There are at least 4 debugging levels which gives you more and more output (more than you probably want). Each -d gives you the next level so bzfs -d ... is level 1 bzfs -d -d is level 2 (you c...

Here's a code snippet for a flag zone
You need to add -fb to the server options to allow flags on buildings if you want flags off the floor.
Code: Select all

Re: norang servers
All the servers on bzflag.norang.ca are basically an "unrolled rotation server." I used to run a rotation server for LouMan maps but that seemed to always have the wrong map running and the duration of the game is always inconvenient (the game ends too early or it takes too long to change ...

bzflag.norang.ca server setup

Big Mad City map
I have two more versions of Mad City provided by the Purple Panzer ... one is a mirror image of the regular mad city and the other has a larger playing area to accomodate more players. If anyone is interested I can throw these on another couple of servers.

It seems to work okay as they normally get used one at a time anyway so the bandwidth tends to be for one map only. If multip...

Server Crashes when player connects
I finally tracked down the cause of this problem with SportChick's help. Thanks SC! If your server has a user and passwd database file the server can crash when a user connects to the server. I hand edited my user list and forgot to remove the associated password entries. When a user with only a pas...

Setting var at server startup
You can set server vars at server startup using the bzfs option -vars varfile.dat and put the settings you want in varfile.dat eg. --- contents of varfile.dat --- set _rejoinTime 0 set _wingsSlideTime 0.5 set _maxBumpHeight 0 --- end of varfile.dat --- Set whatever server variables you need.
