Re: Help with local server
Did you start your server from the client menu so far? If so, learn how to start it from the command line. A starting point for that would be here: http://my.bzflag.org/w/Creating_a_server and here: http://my.bzflag.org/w/Sample_conf If you still don't get your local server working you at least shou...

Re: BZAdmin
One reason for running bzadmin all the time is of course to push the server up in the list
But yes, thats annoying. Strayers site allows to sort servers by real players, ignoring obs.

Hi
Really nice!
You should probably add another PZ sound at the very end of the song, i think it'd make good there.

Re: admin client
...and when it was designed to be played on a local network cheating was nothing anybody would care about - you don't cheat if you meet the other player on next coffee break where they might want to discuss the case eye to eye, so they didn't spend a single thought on that either. Again, nobody can ...

Obviously thats the way you want to see it. You don't even try to discuss Jeffs very good points. Well, go with it then.Ghost. wrote:What you saying - rephrased into plain language: Ain't gonna happen - won't do it. Suffer it.
Fine. At least, we know where the goalposts are now.

Re: admin client
You don't get it. Cheat prevention makes cheat detection dispensable. If you make a cheat impossible you don't need to detect it. Cheats use bugs? Fix the bugs! The server has not enough capabilities? Give the server capabilities! Client cheat detection? You have lots of inaccurate information about...

Re: admin client
Ghost, you are very welcome to implement whatever you see fit. Right now, however, JeffM is doing a great job resurrecting development that in fact had already died! Your reaction does not really help to motivate developers. The upcoming release WILL include some cheat _prevention_, which is what we...

Re: admin client
Hi There are some checks serverside, though they are not really reliable as Jeff explained. These checks log it when they find something suspicious. It'd be quite simple to create a pluging that filters such log events and sends them to admin channel. So you should probably consult your local plugin...

Re: Music in bzflag
I see no real reason to have background music in game. There are plenty of options to hear music while playing even now! Providing background music as a part of maps similar to textures would for sure lead to legal problems when unexperienced server owners use copyright protected content. Also we ha...

Re: Your BZFlag Hero/Master
Hi I've met so many fantastic players and great personalities over the years that i can hardly name all of them so just a few names in no special order: bomber - kicked my butt so badly. A very nice guy, one of the few players who have always been there since i joined BZfamily. root - still my idol....

Re: Guided missile warning light?
Hi Making a locked GM looking different would be at least nice. Yes, i'm barely ever surprised by a GM. I'm watching radar nearly always and i know which players have GM, and even if i don't i can identify the missile quickly (it's slow by default and it's turning). However sometimes it's not clear ...

Re: Minimum and Recommended Specs
Hi Besides that you should keep in mind, that the bandwidth required largely depends on the server configuration. Extras like jumping, super flags, number of shots, GM add to the data rate per player. Then the overall data rate will grow exponentially with the number of players. Complex, popular ser...

just a short note: 1vs1 is a server patch, therefor it needs to be updated if the code it patches to changes it needs to be updated too. the patch command has some kind of fuzzy logic, so it mght still work fine in many cases, most probably some manual work is needed to copy and paste parts of the p...

One thing which made me wonder abou this, is the fact that you always have to be better than before. To win points, you always have to play better than your rating shows you are - thats a bit weird. Does this calculation imply eternal improvement? No, you don´t have to be always better. there´s an ...

No, no, no and no! U misunderstood zelo then! Yes, probably (or did you change it at some point?) There´s an C and S in that formula i don´t really get. and i certainly do not agree that the winner might lose points if he doesnt score enough, this is certainly a bad idea, like punishing inactivity....

All answers refer to my paper, Zongo should probably answer for Zelo as there are some constants in his formula that i don´t actualy understand... Some questions for my understanding: 1. what does count? the number of caps difference or the caps ratio? So would 2-1 be the same as 4-2, or would 2-1 c...

For those who dont know, ZELO rating formula as I implemented 2 years ago in the 1vs1 league does exactly what menotume suggests... I guess you misunderstood that. With ZELO a team losing a match will still lose points, even if they played far better than suggested by the difference of the teams sc...

How about a change to the ELO rating (as suggested by Pimpinella for the 1v1 league) .... The document where i originally discussed this can be found at the link below. As you can see it´s about the ZELO-rating used for 1vs1, however the idea behind it can be used for ducati-league qiute as well. h...

JeffM already said it, if you wan't to make computer programs the first thing you have to learn is programming. You can implement any application with any of those three, but it won't help you to know the languages' syntax unless you learned how to actually design programs. About the languages: Pyth...
