Re: Options to make BZFlag popular
First time I've been here in a while. Dipping into a few threads I find not many new posts at all. Is this pretty much dead, then?

Re: Why are there only like 30 people playing BZFLAG at one
The issue is the weather. We play this game for a bit of escapism: sunny days and blue skies. In their wisdom, the devs have given the game clouds

Re: BzFlag is dying
I think server owners can do a lot to help make their maps beginner friendly. For example, the geno flag, if too readily available, can ruin the experience for newcomers. I have in mind one particular map, where veteran players will pick off newcomers with the geno flag. The new players often appear...

Re: bzadmin for iOS
Will it be able to get the server list at some point? Hi, yes, that is something on the to-do list. I already have written the code to obtain the list of servers and the login token. It's just a matter of integrating that code with the rest. In the first instance I wanted to keep things simple and ...

bzadmin for iOS
You may have noticed a certain "mr tester" logging on and off a lot lately.
This is what he's been up to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1gfAyHifdA&hd=1
It's a bit rubbish, but it's my first iOS development effort.

Is that even the BZFlag client? * points at the "raytrace rendering engine" text * If anything, it looks like a modded client, so you should know what the heck it is. Most certainly not a modded client! The construction of the scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lsra8gku9rs&fmt=22 I...

Graphics Problem
I was experimenting with recent SVN code and for some reason the side of a tank wasn't rendering. That I can cope with (I normally aim at the turret). But what's really off-putting is this thingummyjig (technical term) hanging inside. In all my years of BZFlag, I never saw the hideous like of it: ht...

Re: 32 or 64 bit
Actually many 32 bit apps run faster on 64 bit systems. Modern 64 bit CPUs can do some operations twice as fast if they know they are 32 bit operation. 64 bit doesn't mean faster, it means the app can use over 4 gigs of ram. BZFlag does not use over 4 gigs of ram so it gets no benefit from being 64...

want 12MB texture files, do we?

BZFlag 64-bit Client with New Textures
For a limited period of time, here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22994649/BeeZee.dmg Note : you need a 64-bit Mac with OS X 10.6 to use this. The client is modified to produce a deeper nicer blue sky and to enable anti-aliasing, if so desired. Please consult "ReadMe.txt" for further info. Lastl...

Re: FF & EIE Matches
Certainly, a league without active teams is dead, so this inactivity should be addressed. Perhaps it is too early to decide such things, but there certainly is a case to be made for breaking these successful teams into smaller active teams for the sake of the league, if no other solution can be fou...

Re: FF & EIE Matches
wow impressive ::: and whats with all the other teams? All their active players left and joined EIE or FF :--; - is there something "new" missing in the leagues that players lose interest? Speaking only for myself, I do think the gameplay could do with a bit of tweaking to add some new in...

FF & EIE Matches
The following bar chart shows the percentage of matches that involved FF and/or EIE: percent.png Each bar represents a group of 100 matches, with the most recent matches on the right. Of the last 100 matches played on GU, 81% - 4 out of every 5 - involved either FF or EIE or both FF and EIE. That is...

Re: "Demystifying Lag" not accurate
BZFlag's lagstats are NOT terribly flawed. They work perfectly. But most players do not understand that they can only measure lag and packetloss if there is data sent. People are pausing matches and stop any actions and remain sitting there for hours to see their lag go down what won't happen becau...

Re: "Demystifying Lag" not accurate
Some aspects of the document are roughly accurate. Some aspects, however, are not. I'm not going to run through a huge list, but I'll note in passing that this is inaccurate: Lagstats are very reliable as they simply tell the delay of the gaming packets related to the recent player movements/shots [...

There's a big hint in the video. It's about as obvious as the very prominent
and unusual green line that some seem to have overlooked.

You did have a jitter spike. The evidence is in the video. But what you have just written is a complete lie and you know it. Show me one piece of proof that I accused you of "lag-cheating". What great evidence a three frame per second YouTube video serves as. If you actually looked at the...

Re: Fair Play (or lack thereof)
You stopped. Then you shot again. Then you stopped again? That's like saying "oh, I stopped smoking twice last week." ;) No, it's nothing like that. But thanks for the feeble attempt at humour. Snick, you are out of line. You call me unsportsmanlike like when all signs point to you being ...
