Could we have the forums encrypted?
Especially since companies like Globalsign now offer it for free for open source projects?
This does depend, however, on our hosting setup.

Development catogory naming
What is the purpose of the Development > development subtopic?
The subtitle "Place all meeting requests / announcements here... " seems a bit confusing, could it be replaced with something more generic like "BZFlag development" as none of the threads are about meeting requests

What changed binary size in 2.4?
I noticed that now Bzflag (2.4) is a fraction of the size of Bzflag (2.0.16), 37mb vs 178mb. Why is this?

Re: Filthy Liars!!!!!!
How does a wiki page equate to unpolished? Some sites use a wiki for their entire homepage. I'm saying what I thought when I first saw the BZFlag wiki. Many projects do use Wikis for the entire site and I feel this looks even more unpolished. Wikis look busy and are meant for quickly browsing for t...

Re: Filthy Liars!!!!!!
How to Play should be on the main bzflag.org page. Having simple things like instructions on how to install should not be on the Wiki it makes BZFlag look very unpolished. Also the Help menu in-game is awful.

A solution? (maybe)
I can't think of anything else other than those specific domain resolutions are being blocked. Try browsing (or pinging if you are so inclined) to http://bzexcess.com directly and see if the page loads, if not go to System Preferences > Network then under advanced for the current interface (the one ...

Re: Server CTL Script
Thank you Blast I'm still trying to figure that out but here's what I have so far: #!/bin/sh # # if you like symbolic links: # BZFS_EXEC_L '/Library/BZFlagServer/bin/' BZFS_EXEC_L='/Applications/BZFlag-2.4.0.app/Contents/MacOS/' BZFS_FILE_L='/Library/BZFlagServer/' #bold=`tput bold` #nobold=`tput rm...

Re: Server CTL Script
But Nohup still stops the script unless you run nohup bzfs & and even then it occasionally writes things like: [1]- Exit 1 nohup bzfs [2]+ Exit 1 nohup bzfs I want bzfs running outside of the shell Even exec & bzfs & still dumps output to the shell what does: [2]+ Exit 1 "/usr/X11/b...

But I just want to run bzfs the same way httpd and ftpd and other server daemons run. How does apachectl work if not by doing that?

Re: Server CTL Script
A process will be sent to the background by placing an ampersand (&) sign after the command. I already tried this and output is still in the same terminal. I want to be able to run my script, and close the window without it closing bzfs. I've already asked around a bunch of other forums and I s...

Re: Server CTL Script
Thanks, but do you know how to start a background process in sh?blast wrote:You can use the -pidfile option of bzfs to write out the PID (Process ID) of the bzfs instance to a file of your choice. Then you can use that PID what you want to close down a specific server.

Server CTL Script
I am currently working on a script for BZFS to work like apachectl. Is there any way of controlling the server from a separate process, i.e. not the one that launched it, without using loging in to bzadmin? I'm looking for a better force-shutdown method than killall bzfs something with the same effe...

Re: bzfs error message
If you have bzfs running on a Unix/Unix-like OS (basically not Windows) select the window in which bzfs is running and press CTRL + C. HOWEVER, the next time you run the server make sure you include the -password option so you can use /shutdownserver when connected to properly shut down the server. ...

Re: Mac OS X public server hosting problem (Video Provided)
Hey I watched the video and I think you forgot to port forward both UDP and TCP as well as denying BZFlag on the firewall. The Mac firewall is configured to keep out inbound traffic, like people trying to contact your bzflag server. Go to firewall and set allow for bzfs. EDIT: And maybe try port for...

Bzflag Updater Talk
Is it possible to have a BZFlag updater? Also where would menu options for it go? Would the Sparkle framework ( http://sparkle.andymatuschak.org/ ) work with the Mac version of BZFlag? At least could there be an updater page: http://update.bzflag.org/ for all updating procedures. This could then be ...

Please no circle icons. It makes good icons look cheap and rushed. Dare to be different.

please update the logos in the 2.99 builds; yours are AWESOME.
However it is somewhat hard to see so maybe a darker color.

Bzflag 3 Showcase
As was briefly suggested in the 'Don't let BZFlag Die' thread; Bzflag 3 sounds like vaporware. What if all those with functioning BZFlag 2.99 builds play for a while together and take some screenshots or videos to show that BZFlag is still a work in progress but is functional and playable? Build up ...

what about ideas/suggestions?
For instance I think it would be nice if the server and port fields were copy and paste-able.
