Re: language filter
I fail to see why it matters that I don't have any specific complaint about the filter because I'm speaking primarily of the (for lack of a better term) cultural problems that are causing it to seem necessary. If I was complaining that the filter is inadequate I would have my argument lined up. What...

Re: language filter
Judging from everything these people have said so far and my experiences with the filter on my own maps, in which there are many false positives, the filter is not a help. I'm not so much attacking the filter as attacking the fact that we feel like we need a filter. And if we need a filter that badl...

Re: language filter
You know, there's always the option of admins doing their jobs. I mean, we have something like 246,897,134,637.84 admins, and if it's really that difficult for one of them to be around often enough to deal with major language issues, I don't even have enough ways to say "You guys need training....

Re: The Rules
I'm glad the admins are willing to discuss it. Generally, anyone I present this issue to blows me off or otherwise dismisses it. I understand that a safe, pleasurable environment is needed, but I think it's becoming a bit of a tighter control than is needed - and I believe there's plenty of moral po...

The Rules
I would like to see a revision of the rules to include a solid list of what is and isn't considered offensive language or behavior. I've seen far too many instances of unclear rules leading to unfair punishment, when at the root of it is simply misunderstanding. The GU league website ( http://guleag...

Re: General Hostility Levels
I think some more variety in maps would bring some revival to bear as well. I have a few sketches laying around that I could start writing out in a text editor, and I think I could get some other mapmakers to be active again. I would guess that only about 20% of the 2.4 servers have seen even a sing...

Re: General Hostility Levels
I was under the impression that BZFlag was a fairly long project. I thought it was at least 15 years old. My mistake.

Re: General Hostility Levels
I think one thing we'll observe soon is that many of the older players will grow out of the game. A lot of the BZFlag community has been around for 10, 15, and 20 years. A lot of these people will be in their 40's, 50's, and 60's soon, and ultimately will leave the game. A lot of them are administra...

Re: General Hostility Levels
I have seen far less of that than I have seen the complete blowing out of proportion of a trivial offense. Often administrators will completely inflate an issue to ban someone they don't like without repercussion from anyone else. I have experienced this twice. The first time, I was banned twenty mi...

Re: General Hostility Levels
Sigonasr2 very much is seeing the pattern I'm seeing - as the player base shrinks, the only players left are the old ones, because they are generally the predators that scare off the newbies. In short, the more the player base shrinks, the more it will. BZFlag is becoming survival of the fittest - t...

General Hostility Levels
Does anyone else feel like the general hostility of BZFlag players is rising? Six or seven years ago when I started playing, I had fun. Now BZFlag is practically nothing but high stress and constantly playing defense. Am I the only one noticing this, or does anyone else feel a bit like people are be...

Radar on Ducati Servers
I would like to request that server owners consider _radarLimit on Ducati-style 1vs1 servers being set back to 400 (normal worldsize) - I find that the inability to keep the radar at its normal size without lots of finagling is a pretty big impediment to play on the servers. If I'm the only whiny pl...

8 teams of two play tournament arrangement of 7 15-minute matches. Before the final match, the two champion teams must swap one of their players with a player from the other team.

Resignation Notice
Whether or not anyone cares, I'd like to announce that I am no longer a part of the GU League. I will not go into detail about my reasoning, but much of the problem was bias and hostility from admins toward me. I am not the first to be frustrated by the issue, nor am I the first to leave the league ...

This is not intended to be a final version in any way, shape, or form, but before I go farther than a rough draft, is this what you're looking for?

Blender Wallpapers
I rendered a few iconic BZFlag objects in Blender with faked global illumination, and I like the way they turned out. They are 1280x1024 pixels, PNGs. One is a box, one a green tank, one a pyramid. I can do other tank colors easily, should anyone want more. I can also re-render with other resolution...

Cleaned-up Tank Mesh
So I and Blender got bored today, and we decided to clean up the tank.obj offered by the wiki. It needed quite a bit. Anyway, I decided to drop the new .obj here in case anyone has a use for it. It's now usable and easily modified, but has a higher poly count of 359. I should add that a few vertices...

BZFS Compatibility Issues
I downloaded architecture-appropriate bzflag client and server builds from the same source. Installed them. BZFlag client starts fine, connects to public servers, it's all good. BZFS itself starts up fine with no errors. When I try to connect to localhost:5154, BZFlag says "Incompatible server ...
