Re: A few thoughts on server policies
I can think of some valid reasons why observers would be kicked or banned: 1. They are disrupting the players, or the game. 2. They are providing game intelligence to players. 3. They are attempting to draw players away to some other server. 4. They are taunting, belittling, or annoying others. 5. ...

Re: A few thoughts on server policies
It seems they didn't want me to observe or chat as observer. It's very difficult for me to think why someone would think observing is such an issue to them. -Zehra I can think of some valid reasons why observers would be kicked or banned: 1. Re: A few thoughts on server policies
What, specifically, are the 'actions' you are talking about above? Observing. So, this is your assertion? (substitutions mine) They don't give any policy and just because they see no reason for you OBSERVING they ban you. You've OBSERVED before without any issues and no players have given complaint...

Re: A few thoughts on server policies
The thing is to try to get some sort of a consensus with what is considered violations of policies and what is not. The area which is very grey, specifically in the area of language in which there's many opinions of what is language and what is not. It's a bit annoying to find the policy changes ba...

Re: A few thoughts on server policies
So here's two examples. You're doing your own things and just enjoying the game, but one admin comes up and says you're violating a policy from the server. After this you ask which policy it is and what you're doing wrong and what can be done to resolve it. They don't give any policy and just becau...

Re: A few thoughts on server policies
I agree with this and my view might have been unclear or misunderstood. Following the rules is what I'm trying to bring with this. If the rules are not clear or are vague, they should be made clear and this helps improve consistency with them. What is a violation to one admin is not a violation to ...

Re: A few thoughts on server policies
The rules you need to know to be safe from admin actions in bzflag, you should have learned in kindergarten. These rules apply no matter which server you are playing on.... in fact, they apply everywhere in life. 99.999% of players have no problems with administrative actions, because 99.999% of pla...

without going into the technical details of your post (or understanding them for that matter ^^) i'd like to throw my two cents about language: unless you're explicitly allowing "bad language" like mofo, language policy is a double-edged sword. upset the balance in one direction, you may ...

Re: Why are there only like 30 people playing BZFLAG at one
I can't say I disagree with Sky King. Just to add, the geno players seek out the newbies to run up their scores, which causes their teammates to be very hostile to them. If players were as hostile to me when I was a newbie as I see them be today, I don't know if I'd have stayed around either. Life's...

Really good question. Its a simple map. But really, it's hard to understand the popularity. Similarly, it's hard to understand how Missile Wars could be so popular for years in 2.0, but almost unplayed in 2.4. Its difficult to understand why eye candy maps, like Louman's and ahs3's don't seem to app...

Re: BzFlag is dying
One way to do that: Award 1 point for the geno player's kill, and subtract all the deaths from the player that got hit. So new players that get targeted by geno users will see their score drop by 10 to 20 points at a time? Yeah. New players don't generally obsess over their score. They are just try...

Re: BzFlag is dying
The existance of the geno flag in the game is not the problem. It is poor implementation of the geno flag by map makers, and the abuse of it by a few players that causes the issues. Removing it from the game and implementing it as a plugin seems like unnecessary work that just brings us back to wher...

Re: Give Genocide a radius
RiskyGeno is not without its problems. The 'risk' assumes the geno player cares if his team dies, since it only costs 1 point. Want to make RiskyGeno truly risky, have it zero the G player's score or kick him from the server if he gets killed holding it. Geno abusers care about one thing, seeing the...

My brother (callsign: BwastEm) introduced me to the game. Since then it has consumed my life, ruined my relationships with freinds and family, and nearly gotten me fired (until the boss got addicted too). I have never forgiven my brother, and so I BZpwn him relentlessly at every opportunity.

Delay after shot limit reached
I think a short 'reloading' delay after you reach the shot limit and drop the shot-limited flag would be useful. Like the one when you drop TH. Would keep you from shooting yourself when firing bursts with SB against a wall.

Re: Give Genocide a radius
Generally, I like the idea of more options over fewer options, and I think Ratfinks idea is a good one. Map makers should (and do, generally) put a LOT of thought into how the G flag is integrated into their maps, because it is so powerful. Ratfink's idea gives them more options, but also allows the...

Re: Problem with /flag up. Some flags can still be grabbed.
Ah OK. Yeah, it was weird. A player passed the team flag mid, then nobody from either team could pick it up.
MW 2.3 is a whole different game with no flags. It really brings the skilled players to the top. You should consider running a no flags verson.

Was playing blasts server (MW2.3) with /flag up (no flags). BU, MG and F flags could still be picked up. One team could not grab their own team flag.

Re: 2.4 GM lock problem
Since this is, in effect, a 'see ST when you shouldn't' bug, how will we keep players from using 2.4.0 client to cheat? I assume make bzfs require >= 2.4.1? I realize this is of minimal use since it is only good until you shoot once.

2.4 GM lock problem
With Quality=Experimental you get a GM lock box on screen that follows the player you locked on. If that player subsequently picks up a ST flag, the box remains on screen and tracks him. The lock appears to cancel, but the box still follows the player. If you fire, the box disappears when your shot ...

Re: Mobile?
IIRC, there was incompatibility with the Xbox SDK and the GPL that made the possibility of developing bzflag for that platform, and others like it, impractical from a licensing perspective. With regards to mobile devices, there was the issue of lag and latency associated with the various mobile netw...
