I like it, but if I recall correctly there is no way for the server to modify the score (i.e. how many points you get). There may be a way to give somebody extra points through a plugin (bot tanks in a sealed area?) but that seems difficult.

I really think Bzflag could be much more popular if we had an introduction of some kind and advertised more (doesn't even have to be advertising per se, just a way to be more accessible)... many people aren't as concerned over graphics as you might think if the game is as fun as bzflag. BZflag is about geometry, not physics. I think if people remembered this (admittedly generalized) concept, we would have fewer over-complicated suggestions.

Or: if you do /clientquery , the callsigns will respond in order of their player id. You can use this to get an estimation for the above example, but it doesn't always correspond exactly because there could be gaps in the numbers.

Sounds interesting, but I doubt you can find anything useful about player's performance in their network traffic. You could try a brain scan perhaps.

That would be fun, to just have no-flag maps up for a bit. However, I disagree that camping maps discourage new players, probably the opposite. If I were a new player coming to this game, I'd want to take part in a big epic battle with cool weapons than play with a style that involves (gasp!) geomet...

When you and a teammate are on together you can find another team and ask them to match. If you're new to this they can probably help you get to the server and all that. After you're done send a match report to one of the gu refs or ask the other team to (look at the gu site contact page- that will ...

The 3D view is called "out the window" in most games I think. (You are looking out the one-way tank windshield I suppose- although technically you are looking right out of your cannon)

Perhaps the plugin could be set that it kicks/bans automatically when there are no admins but sends the messages when there are admins? I suppose you would need some calibration to deal with admin loggers and afk admins though.

I actually listen to classical music most of the time, and I do often listen to music while playing bz. I'm not completely single-minded though (as some classical musicians are), I also like jazz, some rock, and a lot of Irish trad.

I like the separate 2v2 teams idea, mostly because a lot can change with teams in 6 months, and by the end of the team's championship period, it might not even exist anymore. The ranking system already creates a "champion" team, although in a much slower (and probably more accurate) process.

Getting tips can help get you started, and playing on public a lot will eventually get you a high score, but the only way to really get skilled at fighting is to play a league a lot. Just try to play a lot of matches and FFA Hix, and eventually you will find you can fight pretty well without superfl...

Strakowski, what you're talking about isn't modifying the client, just changing the image files the client uses for the bullets (I've seen some pretty funny ones with people's heads, look at this thread: http://my.bzflag.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=12586).

Yeah, lighting would be a great addition. I've seen some pretty good quasi-lighting on some maps, but you could make really immersive maps with it actually a feature.
